If Kodi were your player and he actually did twitter what he appeared to, what would you do about it?

Suspend him?

Ignore it?

Make him run laps?

but from what we know at this point (which is Kodi has went public bashing the coach twice), he wouldn't be part of the team. You cannot tolerate that type of disrespect from people beneath you.

...you gotta have the respect of your players. If you don't have that, all the running, suspensions, and whatever else you do won't matter. Players don't have to like you, but they have to respect you. This is Rick's biggest problem, and it didn't just start happening this year. Kodi did this last year when he yapped to the press, and players have been openly questioning his methods and decisions for years.

Someone mentioned this earlier, but just watch the players during timeouts. They pay ZERO attention to Stansbury. That says everything about his ability to lead as well as his players confidence in his ability to coach.

I'd make a real example of him. I'd work his *** to the bone. I'd run his *** and make him practice until he either quit or apologized and STFU. Then I'd sit his *** to drive the point home. While I was doing this, I'd let everybody on the team know that winning comes from hard work and that they may have been really good against 5ft 10" white guys in highschool, but NCAA hoops is a completely different ballgame. If you want to be a great player and make it to the NBA, then you'd better start listening to me, do what I say, and play to win for the team. You do that and the NBA will look at you a hell of a lot more than if you're acting like a damn baby and on a losing team because all you give a crap about is yourself. If the lazy bastard quit, I'd laugh in his damn face and show him the door.

If Stans would do this and half the team left, and we lost every damn game this year, I'd have more respect for his *** than I do right now. A coach is supposed to be a hardass....period. You can be a player's coach and still be demanding. Ask Dan Mullen.

Kodi should get kicked off the team. The problem is he's probably the least replaceable person on this team (a good indication of why they suck). If Stans kicks him off, the team will suck, and Stans will probably lose all the other players with questionable character (won't list them, but basically the players with talent). If his team really goes to **** this year, he'd have to do something special next year to keep his job.

Does anybody know if Romero Osby had a decent attitude? Becauseif he did, then this is all on Stans (not that it isn't regardless, but it's even less defensible). Osbyisn't the sametype player as Augustus, but he could come closer to replacing him than anybody else on this team, and unless he was as big of a head case as Augustus,he should have been playing significant minutes last year. You can't expect to have players with good attitudes ifyou constantly play the lazyPOS's over them.</p>

and I'd have a manager provide minute by minute updates on Kobi's conditioning regimen, complete with twatpics. "Hi, I'm kobi, and I am a dubmass." "This is me running suicides." "This is me running more suicides." "This is me running steps." "This is me doubled over." "This is me getting ready to hurl." "This is me apologizing to my teammates." "This is me apologizing to Coach."

I'd make Grant or somebody the interim coach and start looking for a whole new staff. It is pretty obvious that our whole basketball program needs a house cleaning and fresh start. Get rid of everyone who has been in contact with this cancer. THE MSU BASKETBALL PROGRAM MAKES ME EMBARRASSED TO BE A STATE FAN! Clean house Strick!!!

and has been for at least a few years now. Hell, Timmy Bowers in 2004 after he hit the shot to beat Bama, mentioned to the paper that The Recruiter had drawn up a play during the time-out, but he wanted to do something else and thats what he did to make the shot. Maybe someone can find the quote.

How would I handle it?

I would have called a practice at 6 am. When I had them all on the endline- I'd look at Kodi and say- "you damn right we needed to practice after the flight. When your *** starts grabbing more than 2 rebounds a nite, we'll practice less. Rebounding drill- here we goooooooo". And I would start practice. I wouldnt make a huge deal out of it- no suspension, no extra running....I'd get my shot right back at him at the 6am practice in front of everyone, do rebounding and other drills for an hour, then go eat breakfast.

At breakfast I would announce my new twitter policy. Anybody making public remarks on facebook or twitter from this point forward, that is negative toward team policy or the coaching staff, would be subject to the punishment of my choice. I would warn them to think twice about making their gripes public, because chances are, it is not going to end well.

Then I'd sit down and finish my breakfast

I do everything I could to make him want to quit. If he makes it through it, fine - maybe he just needs a little clarity on what's important. If he cries and quits - fine with me - I've given up on this season anyhow. We allegedly have talent coming in next year, but where's the depth? Might be a blessing in disguise if we get rid of that cancer now and start developing other players for the future.

this quickly but Stans has already lost the team. The guys are quitting on him and if he can't figure out some way to pull them together he's gonna loose a lot more than a bunch of basketball teams. Stans has made us look like a bunch of dipshits this year with the transfers and suspensions. This is a 17ing joke.

This whole team is out of control and it ain't getting any better. I'd work the entire teams *** off and not let them enjoy one free minute of pleasure in paradise. I'd work them till they vomit and then single Kodi out for some additional quality time. They need to be reminded of the fact that they may be talented as individuals but as a team they aren't worth a ****. Some egos need to be beat down. Or run off.

I'm not sure if Stans has this in him or if there is enough time left in this season to get it done.

Stans need to take a few courses from the Bobby Knight Academy of how to be a complete ******* and win basketball games.

But Stans should have already made it clear to Kodi that there would be consequences for taking his bitching public after last year's episode. There's got to be some punishment for this, whether it's a suspension or just run his *** off while school's out and you don't have the 20-hour practice limit to worry about.

1) I'd take Kodi to the side and ask him what he wants out of his last year playing anything other than Church League - because as it stands no professional team is going to touch him with a 10 foot pole. I would then explain to him that he's slighted me in public for the last time as a member of the MSU basketball program. From this point forward he will do exactly as I say, when I say it, with a smile on his ******* face or I will bounce his *** so fast he won't know what hit him.

2) I would take Sidney off to the side and tell him that following Kodi's lead in any way will show the world that he's not worth the hassle and if he really wants to be an NBA star he'd better do what it takes. That being a) keep his *** in shape, b) play with passion and intensity, c) play some damn defense.

3) I would gather the team together and tell them that it's obvious that many of the players don't seem to care or want to do what's best for the program. As of this moment every spot on this roster is under review, and if I have to yank every %*!##!# scholarship up in this ***** to get control of my team again I will do so. I don't give a **** how awesome you were in high school - Virginia Tech showed me what a bunch of pussies you all are.

4) I would then follow up with the statement that it is my way or the highway - right or wrong, good or bad. *I* am the man in charge, and *I* am the man responsible for this team - not anyone else. Anyone who thinks differently can GTFO.

Complaining about practicing is not nearly as bad as what he did after the Rider game to the newspaper- even though he was actually right last year.

And honestly, The Recruiter doesnt have their respect anyway- and it's not coming back anytime soon. It really doesnt matter what he does at this point. About the only thing he could do is kick someone off to try and get the younger players attention. Thats his only hope that I see.

...ground. I heard the same thing (heck, I posted the same stuff) after watching MSU football 2001-3. However, you see it on every college message board whenever their team is losing....make every practice like 1954 Junction, Texas.

However, there's a few problems to this:
- You only have 20 hours to practice/play per week. That's only 20 hours a coach can be in contact with the players. You just played 5 games in 6 days. That's about 15-18 hours right there. You'd only have a few minutes to get the players begging for mercy the way we fans want them to, unless you don't want them to prepare for the next game.

-The players are different from when we were in high school or college. Back then, we endured 3-4 hour practices, with limited water breaks. On the other hand, we usually didn't have to lift weights and do individual workouts during the offseason the way today's players do. Back then, college players could actually study for a real college degree. Now, there's so many hours devoted to your sport (even in the offseason), Interdisciplinary Studies is about all they can handle.

-What would make a talented basketball player want to come to Mississippi State? Most of today's talented basketball players live in urban areas, andfeel more comfortable in a city setting. Mississippi State isa rural school, with few of the amenities of college night life that city colleges, or even some of the larger SEC schools have...even with the improvements that have come toStarkvegas recently. The great players that have come to State came here because of Stansbury recruiting skills. If the players lose confidence in Stans coaching skills, what's holding them here?

bob Boyd was considered one of the best coaches in America. because he was USC coach when John Wooden was there, he rarely went to the NCAA tournament (this was back in the days when only one team per conference went to the Tournament). when he came to State, he only had one winning season. reason being, he couldn't get decent Mississippi players to come here to play.

If Stricklin decides to fire Stansbury, he better have someone on his "A" list in the drawer of hisdesk. Hopefully, someone young and hungry,a charismatic recruiter, who wants to prove himselfat a major college (either a top assistant with a major, or a coach at a small or mid-major).

2) make him run 10 more laps after he pukes...
3) sit his ignorant *** on the bench for the entire time he's in Hawaii...
4) give him the play book and tell him to study it. hard.
5) on the flight back to the mainland give him a test on everything in the playbook.
6) if he misses even one question, he's running laps again until he pukes.

Then he transfers. Then everybody wonders why there's so many transfers. Then you lose a bunch of games because you have no players. Then everybody wants you fired.

Many folks on this board love the knuckleheads. Last week there was a thread about how bad Riley Benock sucks. Later that day we played a game against Alabama A&M. Benock played good defense. He also had more points, more rebounds, more assists, and more steals than Ravern Johnson, Dee Bost, and Renardo Sidney COMBINED. Nobody said a word. WTF did Ravern give us? WTF did Dee give us? WTF did Renardo give us? They didn't give us a damn thing but trouble. The sumbitch (Benock) who was willing to fight, hustle, claw, and work to help us win a game gets no credit. The goofballs who did nothing to help get held up like a king on this board. This is my <17>ing opinion!

And how come other schools dont have this problem like we do? Other schools have transfers- but not from starters or top bench players like we do

Other schools have disciplinarians and yet field basketball teams

If I say I'd rather have a bunch 5 guys on the court with the talent of Kodi Augustus or better, I'm saying that under the assumption they give a **** about winning. If given the choice between those 5 who end up being fickle prima-donnas that want success handed to them on a silver platter or 5 Riley Benocks who, short on talent, might be busting their asses, I'm going with the Benocks all day every day.

No, he can't transfer, but you get what I'm saying. You could substitute Kobi for any ******** on our team.

Also, this article says that 367 Division I players transferred after the end of last season.

I see good in almost everything suggested, However Stans has been around a long time and these are no te first two prima-donnas he has had. He must decide how to get the team under control, understanding that whatever he does must insist that there is no way other than his way. In my mind, thebestcourse of action mustinclude:

Shut up in public
Understand that even a good player can sit on the bench
The hit the road option is always on the table.
I will not sign approval for you to play elsewhere. Take off right now if that is what you want.
I am at the point where wining with my first string is not nearly as important as having a first rate first string.

I'd dump the first guy who twitted or made a statement to the press.

If doesn't draw a line and make it stand, he has lost forever, avan if we decided to keep him, which we wouldn't.
