Question for everyone about the Nick Bell shirt...

A reader made a good point that the shirt should maybe not have SixPackSpeak.com on the front because it looks like advertising. And more people might buy it if it didn't say SixPackSpeak.com. So we might replace "SixPackSpeak.com" with "Nick Bell" and "Officially Unofficial" with "Always Remembered".

but the purpose is to sell as many as possible, and I definitely think that could deter some folks. Not everybody is a fan of 6pack, which I can't understand. I voted to change it since it has been linked to other boards.

show where the love is coming from, but there are things to consider...mainly, how it would look to friends and family members of Nick's if you were standing right next to them wearing it. First and foremost I want to pay my respects to Nick and his family and friends, the last thing I want is to come close to offending them. I would just feel more comfortable with the "Nick Bell, Always Remembered" rather than the "SixPackSpeak.com Officially Unofficial". Just seems like to me that Always remembered has more class to it, but that's my two cents.

we have a sps/bdj combo on the logo with Always Remembered below.

I just think a tribute shirt should have who is showing the tribute on it.

I could see some people reacting negatively.

I think a happy medium may be to make the SPS-related stuff a very minor piece of it. The way it stands right now, SPS gets as much attention as does the #36 - even though that's not the intent.

Surely no one is buying or not buying this shirt because of what it says rather than what it supports. I don't think there's a right or wrong on this one. DS, BMT and Wardlaw should just decide for us all.

it comes across as advertising at all, it's a support/respect thing. i agree it shows where it came from...great idea too.

The point of any tribute is the person/thing that is being honored or remembered, not those who are behind it. You could take any reference to SPS or anything else as advertising. I know that's not the intent, and I realize you can't make everybody happy in general. But in a situation such as this, I think you should be as sensitive as possible to how it will be received.

but honestly, when I clicked on the site to order it, I did find it odd that it was on there. It was the first thing I noticed.

I know that the intent is in the best interest. But in a case like this I think it's best just to remove doubt and go with the always remembered.

Say in 15 years or so, someone finds a shirt. As is, they would say what the hell is sixpack speak and what does 36 have to do with it. If it is modified with "Nick Bell Always remembered" the will likley draw the correct conclusion that he was someone who passed away and was being memorialized and 36 was his number. They wouldn't have to know anything about MSU, SPS or sports at all for that matter. To me that is the purpose of something like this.

As Seshomoru so eloquently put in words, we are now, more than ever, and united fan base. This isn't about "the Swan" vs. DS, or ESPN vs. Scout vs. Rivals. This is the Bulldog fanbase remembering a player that has passed. Every Bulldog, regardless of which message board they come from, should be able to rally around and support this family.

I just don't think we should in any way sully or cause a problem regarding this tragic event. This is about Nick, and about Nick's family. I don't want anything on a shirt that will cause anyone to have a negative thought concerning it.

Besides, this is about raising money to support Nick's family. Let's do whatever we can to ensure that the most shirts can get sold.

This is such a unifying cause, I can honestly see 50,000 strong wearing this shirt on a gameday.

....if you moved the numbers closer together, couldn't you make them a little bigger as well? They're so far apart right now that it looks goggle-eyed to me.

when I saw the TShirt was that it seemed like an Ad for SPS. I feel that it should just have his number and name on there. No SPS. No BDJ.

**Edited to Add: Is there anyway we can make a longsleeve version? It's gonna be kinda chilly the last few games. Just a thought.

the tribute is whoever bought the shirt and is wearing it.

one other suggestion: "remembered always" works better than "always remembered". more affectionate maybe. i don't know...
