is Movie Maker sufficient? I want to incorporate still frames, slow mo, flashes, etc. Also, any song suggestions would be appreciated too. Hopefully we'll have enough highlights this year to justify the effort.
If you simply want to cuto together video and throw music behind it movie maker is fine. But if you really are going to put the effort into it something like Final Cut(mac only) or Adobe Premiere(mac or pc) is the way to go. If you're a beginner there might be a learning curve that might take a while to get a hold of with either of those two.
Since you're using Movie Maker, I'll assume you have a PC, so that rules out FinalCut or anything that is made only for Mac, so I would recommend Adobe Premiere Elements (will cost about $80) or if you have a decent amount of money you could spend on what is still considered low-budget you could invest in Sony Vegas (I would suggest giving the free trial a shot before buying this, though... http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftware ).
