Does anyone know what happened to Donnie Tabb? I remember him committing, when I dont know, but I dont see him in the signee list or depth chart. Did he go to juco?

I believe he is going to East Central CC. I might have that mixed up with East Mississippi, though. (I know, slacker) He has said that once he gets through with JUCO that MSU is his first choice, so I guess he'll be there for two years and come on board.

Went and watched him pitch tonight vs Saltillo in the playoffs...he took the L tonight in a 6-4 loss. He is legit, though....looked to me like he was throwing 90-91, but he struggled with control somewhat.

I heard he didn't have the grades to get into MSU....

I have heard that he had a 3.0 according to one website, so I'm assuming he didn't make his ACT score.

I'm not sure how much creedance to put into that because like you, I had heard that he had some grade issues ever since we got him to commit.

It's also worth noting that he could very well decide to go pro, but despite whatever academic deficiencies he has, he seems like he really wants to go to college and go to State in particular.

I agree with you.....and that was just the rumor floating around NC's ball field tonight. No idea if it's true or not....but I do know he's a very impressive player, and he didn't sign D1 for some apparent reason.

Tabb has signed to play baseball and football at East Central.
Just like Taylorsville's Billy Hamilton at Jones.

It would be great if Coach Cohen would look to West Lauderdale for a catcher by the name of Darren Farmer. I don't know the grade issue but the kid can flat out hit a ball. He hit his 15th of the season tonight against Ridgeland in a 3-2 win. He needs one more to tie the all time school record. By the way, not only is this my alma mater, but it is Cody Freeman's, Paxton Pace's, and Coach Lane Burroughs, as well as Jody Hurst, Jay Powell, and Larry Tompkins. Not bad for a school from a small town of Collinsville. 11 state championships since 78. Go Knights!!!

I think Farmer leads the public schools in home runs. He would be a good get.

I'll be honest- I'm a little skeptical of the competition that Kolby Byrd is playing against. Leal- the guy from Puerto Rico- I'm not sure that he is that great of a hitter. He has a tremendous arm, and probably will be a good defensive catcher, but as far as offense, all you hear about is "potential". Potential to me means that he can't hit right now.

I would be more than happy to get Farmer after he leaves Meridian CC.

Why don't we wait and see how Farmer does in JUCO before we sign him. We have had some JUCO guys that hit slower pitching well but struggled when they got to faster pitching. Depends on how hard they work.

small academy players who have been flops- like Micheal Busby and Caleb Reed. I like the fact that Farmer plays at a 4A school with a good reputation for developing players, and guys who hit 14 home runs in a public school league like that usually translate into guys that have good power potential at the next level.

At the same time, if he goes off to Meridian and does well there, he will hepefully be even more developed should we need a catcher at that time.
