Montini went to ESL last year and dominated both the varsity and soph games. I know that was last year but the way Fenwick beat Montini this year IMO they should beat ESL.

So your saying since a 14-0 Montini team beat a 3-6 EStL team 24-14 last year Feniwick is gonna beat them this year? Can I take that bet?

I am not a betting kind of person, against my religion. LOL. I haven't seen ESL play this year and quite frankly I don't believe that the opponents faced by ESL is of the same as what Fenwick faced in the CCL. While Montini was 14- O last year and ESL was 3-6 the score of that game doesn't match the dominance of Montini in the varsity or soph games. What I am also saying is that unless ESL got a lot more talent on the team than what they showed last year versus Montini, Fenwick IMO would win a matchup (if the both make it that far} with ESL or at the very least lose in a very close game.

* There was a teachers strike last year which I believe cost ESL 4 games they had to forfeit?

* yes a chunk of their schedule is "questionable" but they beat a top ranked defending state champion from Missouri this year (they may have lost to them last year in addition to Montini before the strike? - that would account for the 4 losses).

* that said - they need to get by Glenbard North before they run into Fenwick. It very well could be Fenwick vs. Glenbard North.

EStL did play Providence Catholic and beat them 34-3 so I'm sure their talent is much improved this year.

I know that ESL has received a lot of hype deservedly so. I dont know the quality of the teams that ESL faced this year but If Keller has his usually good game they could win big!

Montini went to ESL and won the varsity game. It was pretty good/ great game that went to the wire with Montini getting an Interception in the end zone to seal the victory. Now if you are trying to compare, what did Fenwick do against Montini last year?? If Fenwick can get better year to year, why is it so hard to think ESL got better. Montini vs ESL 24-14. Montini vs Fenwick 48-7. Not sure your logic on this one.

EStL and Glenbard North is an interesting match up, I've been going back and forth on it but I'm gonna pick EStL. Who ever wins that match up will be the 7A favorite.

Fenwick need to get by Bradley or who ever else is in the Bracket. It can very well be Bradley and ESL or Bradley and GBN. It also can be Bradley and Glenbrook North. Too many people are not giving enough teams respect in this scenario in my opinion.

Gene,

The MCHS team Fenwick played earlier this year is not the same team it is now or what it was last year. The friars better be ready to be punch in the face by the physicality of the ESL team. The game Montini played last year was a battle, and was not dominated by the broncos a win but not dominant.

Your right LHS. Apologies - I haven't looked at the brackets closely yet to see where everyone is and when they run into them etc.

I was merely looking at the potential Glenbard North/ESL round two match up and was musing that I'm not convinced its a foregone conclusion that ESL gets by GBN for a future matchup with Bradley, Fenwick, or any other the others.

I don't think 7A is getting enough credit. Yes 8A is stacked beyond belief - but the top 6 to 8 teams in 7A are crazy good as well.

I avoid saying much, I'd rather talk about teams other than my sons team but let me set one record straight here... Physicality isn't an issue for this Fenwick team.

Getting back to the thread.....

I just did my brackets at lunch for the contest.

4A - I did not do this bracket. I will take Phillips
5A Sterling over Peoria
6A Cary-Grove over Sacred Heart Griffin (PR could bust my bracket here but hey go big or go home in the brackets - right? Tough to beat a closely matched rival twice in same season)
7A Glenbard North over Bradley (ESL could bracket bust me)
8A Loyola over Palatine. (the entire 8A field could bracket bust me)

I certainly didn't say ESL didn't get better this year but Fenwick sure as heck did. Fenwick lost to Montini last year but I don't remember the score. I'm sure it was a blowout though. I am a CCL fan and IMO it is the premier football league in the state with very good football teams and coaches. Fenwick came out of that league with a 7-1 record. ESL is undefeated but again IMO hasn't played the caliber of teams that Fenwick has. Logic from one person to the next is in the eye of the beholder. I'll take Fenwick over ESL if they meet.

Okay! I respect and take your word that Montini didn't dominate the game last year. I thought they did. But Fenwick moved the ball on offense and limited Montini to one score when they played this year. Clearly (Montini) is greatly improved from that game but I am sure so is Fenwick. Fenwick's QB Keller was outstanding in that game and continued his solid play against every other team except Loyola. Only time will tell if they get to play each other.

I respect all the teams in 6a and am not trying to put down any of the teams. Without a doubt Bradley, ESL or GBN are teams which could take the championship. But Fenwick is right there with them. Hell, anything can happen in the playoffs.

Watch the CBC or Eville games online.

CBC has skills superior to ESL - two JEFF Thomas type guys. -ESL D won that game. GOOGLE the CBC recruits. Then Eville - there is no more dominant defensive force in the Midwest than AJ. That dude laid wood all game - monster shots. ESL won a slobber knocker - two "big" wins.

Now, the SWC is not great - but it's the fastest conference in the state. To pitch four shutouts - no breakdowns - you might want to consider that too.
