With Tommy Raffo (who I have much love for) bringing his 9 and 16 Arkansas State Red Wolves into Dudy Noble tomorrow, how different would the last 10 years of MSU baseball have been if Polk had gotten his way?

He would be fired after 5-6 years and Ole Miss would completely dominate in us in instate recruiting. Probably wouldn't have this nice new stadium either currently

We would have been hiring a new head coach in 2-3 years, during which our program would have fallen even further behind the top half SEC programs.

I'll always love what Polk did for our program, but the way he pitched a fit over us not hiring Raffo was just weird.

I am grateful that my favorite and best memory of Raffo is his double off the right field fence against Flarda State in the '90 regional final. And not his *** getting fired after besetting our program in mediocrity.

I was at that game. Great memory, that and the line drive right at Bobby Reed for the double play. That was one intense, pressure packed game.

Bianco would’ve buried us even further in recruiting and we would’ve fallen even further behind.

Cohen probably still comes over from UK eventually, but yeah, Raffo would’ve been bad for us and everybody knew it at the time except for Polk. And everybody ended up being right. He’s done pretty much nothing in over a decade at ASU.

Raffo might could have been successfully had he taken over in 2003 (assuming he had gotten after it recruiting, the opposite of Polk), but in 2009 we needed someone with fire to turn the program upside down. Cohen was the perfect man for that job, and maybe the ONLY man that could have pulled it off, considering he was of our own and had the pedigree as he'd done it at Kentucky. A lot of our fans were turning on him too well into that 2011 season (they know who they are).

Oh yeah, Cohen had an awful first two years and then was sitting at 8-13 in conference play in May of Year 3. Seem to remember us winning a big series in Oxford late in the year and that being a big momentum changer for our program. Pretty sure that was the Forrest Moore subpoena series, too.

That team sneaking into Hoover and then winning a Regional as a 3 seed was a massive deal at the time. Might have gotten to Omaha if they had been paired with anyone other than that Florida team that might have been their best ever.

How good could this team be with 1990 Tommy Raffo at 1B??

Plus he would now be an assistant coach somewhere instead of a HC for the past decade.
