Got a friend that owns some rental houses. Tenant hasn't shown up in a couple months, so they're cleaning out the unit and they find a 6 foot filing cabinet stuffed with baseball/football cards.

"Probably 20 or 30 thousand of them"

Some in binders, some lose. Question is, what should he do with them? Does anyone know someone who deals them professionally, or might would be interested in them? There's probably too many of them to single out and put on Ebay.

Any advice?

there are probably not any worth anything, and as they are all very common, you probably cannot give them away. You might try sprotscardforum.com

I'm sure your friend has some responsibility to try to inform the owner of what he found and give him a chance to claim his property. I know he's apparently abandoned his lease and has been gone for 2 months, but I'm pretty sure he can't just arbitrarily seize the guys property and sell it without going through some kind of process.</p>

In today's lituigious (sp?) society as soon as she sells those cards the tenant will show up and sue. Get a lawyer before you do anything.

or in frequent contact. I think it's actually been longer. They haven't seen the guy since around Christmas, but either way I know understand the concern. Maybe they have to wait 3 months w/o rent, and the expired at the beginning of April?

...I'd bet the most valuable cards are the ones that are being taken care of the best. Check the ones in the front of the binders. The loose ones probably aren't worth anything, but if you follow MLB or NFL you can look thru for rookie cards (it will probably say rookie somewhere on the front of the card, at least that's how they used to do it for baseball) of anyone you recognize. What years they are matter too, if they are several years old, then they may not have separated out cards of players that just recently became stars.
