Question for those that dislike Cohen.....

This is what I don't understand.

The phrase "Year 4!" does not have any basis in this argument. We were 2 innings from Omaha.

Nobody said "WE SUCK AND IT'S YEAR 11!" in 97 after Williams made the Final Four in 96.

But the other 3 years of tenure have been an unmitigated disaster. Missing regionals 3 out of 4 years is unacceptable. If we do miss regionals this year, which looks probable, then next year needs to be really good or we should think seriously about making a change. <div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"></div>

I think most everyone on board wants to see us finish strong ,get to a regional and quit this argument that started on this board yesterday.

However, IF we fail to make a regional this year, he will be on the hotseat next year. Bottom Line. </p>

Answer this question for me - Sly Croom finished the 2007 season with an 8-5 record coming off a Liberty Bowl victory. He was successful 1 out of 4 seasons (just like Cohen will be next year ). In year 5 ,Croom went 4-8 and lost his job. Why should it be any different for Cohen if he has 5 years and only 1 successful season ? Nobody looked at Croom and said - " Man,we won the Liberty Bowl last year this guy needs to stay"

We barely even made the NCAA tournament at all. We had a great posteason, helped by a great draw and some luck, and that was great. But you're only going to win 1 in 10 regionals as a #3 seed. It's great that last year was that 1 time in 10 for us, but it's not really a sign of sustained success. I'd be a lot more positive about the future of the program if we'd hosted a regional and lost it.

Again it all comes down to results.
Hosting a regional means that we have had a great season with lots of SEC wins. Therefore if we host and lose that regional, Cohen's dominance of the SEC over the course of a season shows that he knows what he's doing and should stay.

I think you guys are locked into a football mindset. In baseball and basketball, it's all about reaching the postseason tournament and how well you do. The regular season for football IS the postseason tournament.

Regardless, if you want me to agree that hosting a regional and flaming out in that would've been better than what happened, I guess we'll just have to call it a day. I think that is ridiculous.

1) The liberty bowl is != 8 outs for Omaha losing to the runner up to the National Champions. ...was it flukish to get that hot at the right time, yes and no ...we rested and gave people time to heal during SECT to go into the regionals as healthy as possible

2) Did Croom go 8-5 with a bunch of Juco talent /bridge gaps ...to turn around in year 4 and go 4-8 with a bunch of fr and have 6-11 offensive/defensive players hurt, meanwhile being competitive and just coming up short in close games as we are like 4-6 in 1run game and 1-5 in extra innings or did he coach a game where ole miss tallied 11 sacks and beat the piss out of us 45-0?

3) maybe Cohen did strange things in year 1-2 and messed up his results ...or maybe he just cleaned house to get "his types" that can be argued all day ...but if you can look at Polks last 2 years and Cohens last 2 years and see that we are respected and progressing as we have a young foundation set.

Our team/athletic dept realize the struggles/challenge it is in the SEC. We are a young team, hell our mindset is 1 on the road, 2 at home. I wish our fanbase got it.

And we all agree last year was successful, but big picture certainly hasn't been. If we fail to make regionals this year, that'll be 3 out 4 at home. If that's the case Cohen will need to produce big time in 2013.

is that baseball and football cycles differently. Cohen had to coach his first full baseball season with NONE of his own recruits because by the end of baseball season, when a coaching change is made, all the signing of players and handing out of scholarships has already been done. In football, when the season is over and a coaching change is made, the new coach does at least have control over who he brings in for the next year although obviously some commitments were made under the old coach. Just bringing that point up to make sure people remember that when you are having to build from the ground up, like we are had to in baseball, then the first year is pretty much a waste. And if anyone remembers, the recruiting class Polk left Cohen with in his final season wasn't even ranked in the Top 50 recruiting classes.

Everyone knows that Cohen can be arrogant, way too intense and apparently has quite the foul mouth so I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there that don't necessarily want him for their best buddy. However, we all want a quality baseball program and having Cohen produce that is what its all about. Usually arrogance and intensity work well in a head football coach however, at this point, I'm not totally sold that those are the best traits in a head baseball coach. At least I DO know that Cohen is working his butt off TRYING to make us a better program and I absolutely could not say that about Ron Polk in his latter years.

That had nothing to do with him.

Cohen and Rick Ray could compare notes on being left a bombed out shell of a program.
