Yes

Smug is a good way to describe them. Weird is another word that comes to mind. Also, sweatpants. Lots and lots of sweatpants.

Yes, I would have to say they had an air of superiority. I sat in a sea of blue adjacent to the band. They were nice enough (not like LSU fans), but they were confident at the beginning that there was no way they were going to lose to us. As the game blow out wore on, they got quite, then pissed, then left. It was awesome.

I did not interact with a single Michigan fan, but just looking at them gave me

an "air of superiority", for lack of a better phrase.

I was in New Orleans that week

wearing my State hat the night before. Some bro in a Michigan hat told me we were going to get "Denarded." I smiled politely and told him to remember the name Chris Relf. Feels good to be right.

Not smug. Just tools. Like others have said, lots of jerseys and odd fanatical gear that looked like something a foreigner would wear to a World Cup game. Friendly ribbing always ended with one of them mentioning "winningest program in history". That's all they really had. I was not impressed.

(the cool first one, and not its' disappointing sequel). Were the Michigan fans you encountered smug? Because it sure seems like some of them have a stick up their ***: Michigan regents snuff football fireworks.

Pretty smug. The real problem with them was that they were sent to the lowly gator bowl to play a team they were just going to roll over. I didn't meet many real ******** till gameday. A group pretty much purposely sat on the MSU side to sing their fight song in the face of MSU fans and raise hell. They thought the rout was on after the first score and ramped it up.

The rout was on alright. Their ears are still ringing probably.

oh and they love their fight song... Really love it. They stand and sing hail to the victors pretty much every first down when the band plays it. They were beat 40 something points and still found a way to play it about 20 times.

no....

I would rank them ABOVE fans of several SEC schools in friendliness and hospitality. Much better than Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. Not as good as Auburn, SC, KY, and GA. I was invited to a couple tailgates with Michiganders and enjoyed them.

They have a lot of sidewalk fans like Bama, because they have been winning for a long time. My wife grew up in MI because her father worked for Dow Chemical up there, but went to college at A&M. They do tend to see themselves as better than MI St. They are the TSUN of their state. That being said, I work with alums from both MI ST and UM and both are not as fanatical as most SEC fans, and both are likeable.

Wasn't around a lot of them, but they seemed pretty subdued. Not sure if that was because they considered it a down year or if the type of fan that drops the cash to fly to the gator bowl from Michigan just isn't an in your face douche.

The only thing that stood out was how unattractive their fan base was. Maybe some of that was just that they were wearing lots of sweats and jerseys (not sure what in the weather forecast made them think sweats would be necessary or comfortable), but I would have thought the people dropping coin on going to a gator bowl would be more affluent and generally look that way. Mississippi is supposed to be one of the five fattest states in the nation, but I'd like to see that list redone when only taking into account people that attend college. I'm guessing the rankings would look quite different, with socioeconomic status being a much bigger predictor of fitness in the southeast than the north.

I kind of see their point of view in the article about the fireworks. There is so much excess these days until it's a breath of fresh air to see an entity keep things simple.

dear lord yes

leading up to our game they were constantly talking down to us and talking about how disappointed they were that they had to come down here and play us. They were plenty vocal around the hotel and the bars.

after the game, it was awfully quiet. it was fantastic

I always heard that a lot of Midwestern women looked like bulldogs in the face. Hard winters and lots of German ancestry are responsible for that I suppose....

I agree about the huge jerseys that look like a dress being rediculous...

but what is so wrong about a jersey that somewhat fits? I know it has been poked fun at here for a long long time... just never fully understood why? I see jerseys on thousands of people at Saints home games and think it looks pretty good. Especially the ones on hot women...

I personally don't own one because I think the price is rediculous and most shirts get abused / ruined after a few Saints home games!

I thought they were ok folks. They showed up in big numbers but were subdued throughout most of the game. I think they were just glad to be there and kinda ok with the beatdown because it meant they could get rid of RichRod. After the game one of them wanted my cowbell. Offered to pay me but I wouldn't sell since it was one I had made myself. I ended up giving the dang thing to him.

Compared to black bear, tide and tiger (LSU) fans they weren't too bad at all but when the score is 52-14 or something like that everybody tends to chill.

The difference in UMiss and UMich is that UMich is a very good and nationally respected school. UMich grads have something to be snobby about.

I see why they're doing it, but it's almost impossible to come up with statements that could be MORE condescendingly dickish about it than what they're saying.

I had a guy a couple of rows behind me that kept yelling at me to sit down, he couldn't see. I told him I would sit down when they stopped us. Was a long-*** day for him.

We flew down on a direct flight from Washington Reagan to Jacksonville on an ~50 seat regional jet. There were 3 MSU fans on the plane, 35 or so Michigan fans, and 10-12 folks wondering if they had gotten on the wrong flight. On the way down, it was a loud cabin, lots of confidence, smack talk, no concern whatsoever about losing the game, etc.

It was like a maize and blue church on the flight home. I do recall that not a single person on the flight home commented on MSU playing a good game.

Obnoxious to say the least. Buddy of mine was making conversation with a blue haired Michigan fan on the ride to the hotel. He was being nice and she was just being a snotty *****. As we are getting out he says, "well, good luck". Her response was "Well I'm not wishing y'all luck" in her most bitchy voice possible.

After the game as we walked back to the hotel, we were talking with a Michigan fan that left the game early. He was saying something about how this must have been a big win for us catching them on a down year. And that we hadn't really beat anyone all year. I said that we had beat some good teams and he responded, yeah but you haven't really beat a good team. You haven't beat a like Michigan by several touchdowns. Buddy of mines says, "Oh Yeah we did beat a team like Michigan by a lot." Guys says, how much? Buddy says "52 to 14." Guy says, "what school did you beat that bad?" Buddy says "Michigan". The guy didn't know the score had gotten that bad. He quit running his mouth at that point. But seriously, who talks smack after they get their *** beat? Michigan

I had a different experience. Went to Old Chicago Pizza on the Landing with my brother, sat by 3 alumni and a fan and a couple of them were genuinely interested in our team and thought they were going to have their hands full. They bought us drinks and did go on about how they couldn't wait to get Jim Harbaugh that next year. Saw them after the game and all they could say is wow you kicked our *** thanks for making the hiring process go quicker.

I remember when we were at the Riverwalk at some pizza place and all the Michigan Fans were cheering fervently for Florida State over South Carolina in the Peach Bowl. I somewhat get it when you cheer for your own conference. But cheering against a conference because they are in the same conference as your bowl opponent seemed odd to me.

No sir not at our tent. We have burners for all of our food so it stays hot the entire time. We have ribs, pulled pork , beans, and potato salad catered in from Memphis. Come on by in November to check it out, I swear we don't have a chandelier.

My experience too. Generally friendly. Not much smack talking. But . . . I never saw such an unkempt looking group of women in my life. You could tell you weren't playing a team from the south.

I am an Appalachain State grad who now lives in MS and has adopted State as my home team. I was there when we upset them at the big house. Very arogant before the game with us. Afterward not so much.
