I know some of this has been brought up, but what say ye?<div>
</div><div>I suggest a setup much like football. The thing about baseball is video replay is not determining spots, time, or anything out of MOSTLY safe/out calls. I say MLB could give managers one challenge (or two challenges... but no more than two) a game. If they get the challenge right, they could get a "free challenge," (but only one "free" challenge per game), but if they lose the challenge, they lose it and can't get it back (the penalty for calling a challenge without one could be all runners advance... like a Balk... or ejection). Also, challenges can't be used for balls and strikes. I think this would be a great addition to the game and challenges won't take near as long as they do in football (since spots and time aren't a factor). </div>

I think replay would be and is useful, but lately I've seen calls blown that they just simply shouldn't miss.

I'm fine with replay, but at what point are the umpires accountable? It seems like it is getting worse this year.

I would give managers two challenges, and only take one away if the manager was wrong about the call. I would also add another challenge if a game went to extra innings.

Step 1 - Hire better umpires.

Step 2 - Allow umpires/managers to request instant replay on whether a balls that leave the yard are fair (home run) or foul. It's too complicated to use instant replay to determine fair/foul on balls that stay in the yard. What do you do? Always err on the side of fair? If you don't do that, how can you come back and say a ball is fair? Where to runners on base advance to? Is the batter awarded a single even if it was likely a double? On calls at the bases, to me that's what you pay the umps to do, be a good judge of calls at the bases.

And tennis has a fantastic system of determining whether or not balls are "in or out".... although implementing something like that would be very tricky. However, I don't think the umps are missing any "fair or foul" plays that often... it's pretty easy to see if the ball hits the line or doesn't.

which is actually the case on ground rule doubles and things like that where a ball is eventually rules "dead". Usually, the umpires will allow the runners to advance two on a ground rule double, or one if say a ball is thrown into the dugout. I would think the same would apply on a replay.

1. Each coach gets two challenges plus the umps can challenge at any time. The coach keeps them until he is wrong. I hate when they punish a team because the umps suck at their job. As long as they are screwing up why should the coach suffer.

2. The behind the plate umpire no longer calls balls and strikes. That is done by camera. There is a set strike zone that is monitored by cameras and computers. The guy behind the plate let's the batter, catcher and pitcher know the call and makes calls at home plate.

3. Not replay, but I like the way the SEC/NCAA has implemented a pitch clock. You should have the same thing in the pros.
