• On Adam Carlson's blocked PAT: "We knew they were going to overload in the middle and try to get push, use their high jumper in there. The big question I want to see is exactly how they played it, as far as how they attacked the nose guard. Of course you've got a rule, you're supposed to give a (one) second delay before they hit the center."
You're supposed to give a one second delay before they hit the center? what? How am I misreading that? WTF is he talking about?

since the deep snapper has his head down to snap, you have to wait 1 second to prevent neck injuries so he can get his head up and block.

I think in the NFL you can hit the center immediately. Not in college, however. I think it applies on punts, field goals, and extra points. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I have never seen a penalty called for that in many years of watching and listening to college football.

that time the team we were playing (high school) had two guys in the A gaps by the snapper. When he snapped they hit him in the back of the shoulders and drove him in the ground. You are correct in that it is in place to protect the snapper. This rule is the reason that the first person covering on a decent punt is the snapper because he rarely gets hit.</p>

against Ark in maybe 97. Played a part in the loss.

It was a punt by them instead of a field goal attempt.

I thought in high school it is illegal to hit the snapper on FGs and punts at least that was what I was always told when I played.

It is illegal. I'm not sure about the technicalities of the rule, but I know there is a rule prohibiting them to hit the snapper. Which made me wonder whether or not they did so because Feld seem to be pretty banged up after that play

It would just be roughing the snapper. I've seen it called before and Croom might have a point. Still no excuse.

The tackle lined up directly over the center during a FG attempt. Apparently you have to be on one side or the other.

I think it was the Green Bay- Titans game, or maybe the Colts and the Pats.. Not sure which one. But the rule in the NFL is you cannot have the snapper covered up. Of course I do not think it mattered in that case.. the kicker still made the kick if I remember correctly.
