Because of the advent of the Spread, there will never be another team with stats like the 99 team.

Huge sell. The 1999 team led the nation in total defense at 222.5 YPG. This year's leader was Louisville, believe it or not, at 251.5. Not a huge gap. In 2011, it was Alabama at 183.6, way under.

Scoring defense, we were 6th at 13.5 PPG. That would have been good for 4th last season.

That was the best d we ever had - ever. We were two deep with all-SEC talent at DL, future NFL'ers at LB, and two shutdown corners.

Just off the top of my head:

DL - Wyms, Golliday, Connor Stephens, Sluder, McKinley, Dorsett Davis, Blade.

LB - Haggan, Grant, Simpson

CB - Smoot, Bean

S - Prather, Cooper, Clinton, Nelson

I'm sure I'm even forgetting a few. We had really good players - like Kenzaki Jones, who never saw the field outside of special teams.

I took the whiskey showers

loudly and proudly in '99. The student section was absolutely electric every week.

Averaged 3.34 yds per play. Last year's leader was Michigan State at 4.09. That 2011 Alabama defense was 3.32. 2013 was the first year since at least 2007, that was as far back as I was willing to look.

We also had lots of penalties that kept giving the ball back to the other team, yet we would stop them again. The stats per play may be better because of that, who knows. Its probably different than I remember, but it seemed like we should have led the nation in penalties. The Peach bowl at the end topped it off, over 20 penalties in that game. They were frustrating but also fun to watch.
