Just thought of another great comedy I love...
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
One comedy that I strongly considered was Something About Mary. So clever and well executed. At the time, it was refreshing to see a comedy that was different from other current comedies in that it was not just a collection of funny skits loosely combined into a story. In addition, it still holds up if I watch it today.
I watched the original Bad News Bears last weekend. I still love it, but there were parts of it that would have to be reworked if it were made today, and parts that didn't seem to fit into the rest of story. I don't feel like S.A.M. has those issues.
Another great comedy that I considered was A Fish Called Wanda, but I didn't feel the need to include both it and Holy Grail.
I don't know if my tastes have changed, but it has been a long time since I have seen a new comedy that has been close to the level of some of the ones I have mentioned. These days, it seems like they are all low brow fart jokes or skits from SNL that are funny when they are 5 minutes long, but silly when stretched out into a feature film.
