This was great question... and very difficult to come up with just five.

As I read everyone else's lists... I see the names of other great movies I love:
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
The Princess Bride
Inglorious Basterds
Batman (the entire Christopher Nolan series)
Rear Window
Goodfellas
Shawshank Redemption
The Godfather I & II
Ferris Beuller’s Day Off
Saving Private Ryan
V for Vendetta
Reservoir Dogs
Django Unchained

Others, nobody else mentioned that I considered:
Silence of the Lambs
Schindler's List
Life of Brian
Dr. Strangelove
Fletch
The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Citizen Kane
Charade
North By Northwest
About a Boy
Hoosiers
Miracle
Inside Man
The Natural
A League of Their Own
Glory
Spotlight
Apollo 13
Kingdom of Heaven
Pan's Labyrinth
Lord of the Rings (trilogy)

With all that said...several of you mentioned movies I've never seen or heard of:
Withnail and I
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...
Time Bandits

Just thought of another great comedy I love...
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

One comedy that I strongly considered was Something About Mary. So clever and well executed. At the time, it was refreshing to see a comedy that was different from other current comedies in that it was not just a collection of funny skits loosely combined into a story. In addition, it still holds up if I watch it today.

I watched the original Bad News Bears last weekend. I still love it, but there were parts of it that would have to be reworked if it were made today, and parts that didn't seem to fit into the rest of story. I don't feel like S.A.M. has those issues.

Another great comedy that I considered was A Fish Called Wanda, but I didn't feel the need to include both it and Holy Grail.

I don't know if my tastes have changed, but it has been a long time since I have seen a new comedy that has been close to the level of some of the ones I have mentioned. These days, it seems like they are all low brow fart jokes or skits from SNL that are funny when they are 5 minutes long, but silly when stretched out into a feature film.

Boogie nights is such a good call, but I had to go with “There Will Be Blood” for my PTA movie. Simply because of the DDL and Dano scene in the church. My favorite scene ever in a movie.

I’ve never seen There Will Ne Blood. My post 2000 movie knowledge is limited.

Dang. That’s a must watch.
My wife and I have been married 18 years and never been to see a movie together. The last movie I saw in a theater, besides the Disney movie Planes, was Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. So I’m really ignorant on movies the past 20 years.

I will check that movie out on Netflix if I can.
