....everyone of us is guilty of the "Here We Go Again" mentality.

Mullen is not Croom. In his most recent six seasons (stints at UF and Utah), Mullen has lost 6 games. He is not used to losing. Watch his press conference. He is not going to accept it. Torbush will fix the defense or be gone. Give up 49 a couple of more times, and it may be mid season, otherwise it will be the end of the year.

He's also a smart guy. He has come in and totally turned Chris Relf around, and we now have some semblance of an offense, with very mediocre players at several positions. As an aside, I can't fathom anybody complaining about the offense the other night with what was happening on the other side of the ball. Stansfield in particular needs to go ahead and shut the 17 up. He is completely clueless.

As fans (and let's face, it we are the cynics of the MSU fanbase), we are so programmed to follow a losing football program with terrible offense, coaching hires based on the buddy system, and players being thrown under the bus. The terrible offense is gone, Mullen didn't hire his buddies, and he and the staff took full responsibility for the other night.

We are going to lose a good bit more this year. If we had UM's schedule, we'd be a bowl team. Let it sink in that we have 3 nonconference teams on our schedule head and shoulders better than any nonconference team on theirs. But that's just the way it worked out.

Let's get the 17 out of Croom mode.

We're going to beat Vandy, and we might just shock LSU.

I observed that most rational posters on here were directly complaining about Torbush. Yeah, it blows over onto Mullen because he's responsible for the Torbush hire and he's ultimately responsible for the results. But, I don't think anyone who's rational was suggesting Mullen = Crxxm.

...I guess my overall sense is that the feeling on the board is "Oh boy, here we go again. We are MSU. Another season of blowout losses, etc."

Mullen is a good enough coach to get the **** fixed, and if he can't, he'll hire somebody that will. We're not stuck with sucking for 5 more years. People are all give up after one game because we have been through a decade of utterly ****** football. That was my point.

Mullen has been on top of things since he was hired. Torbush may have been a bad hire based on somebody's recommendation. Even if he turns out to be a bad hire, the fact that we are playing so many freshmen and redshirt freshmen on both sides of the ball speaks volumes. Stiegers (sic) has only been in with the scrubs the last two games. He was supposed to be a great player from Georgia (?) was it? With Cox and Boyd playing what does that say about the DL left? We played some 17 true freshmen and RS freshmen against J State. They played well then but SEC offensive lines are much better. Torbush is firing a pistol that is half loaded at best. I agree he needs a few more games to see if he can really coach. I am not convinced, YET, that a better coach could do more with the same players. But I am convinced if Mullen thinks so he will make whatever changes needed. We have scored more points in the first two weeks in 2009 than we scored in six games in 2008......

this is anything but "here we go again." Mullen knows how to win in college football and he will do what it takes to win. He's hamstrung by the incredible lack of talent Crxxm left him with, but he will turn the corner. Don't forget, Nick Saban struggled to a 6-5 regular season record with a team that had light-years more talent than we do now in his first season at Bama and lost to UAB in his first season at LSU. We will suck badly this year (but no worse than in the last 8 years), but we will see the results in 2010 and 2011.

I'm just pissed that we hired someone crappy as a DC. He may have a half loaded pistol, but I sure as hell would use those few bullets instead of sitting back and not try to do anything except rush three all night.

My attitude is based on the fact that:

A: While he has acknowledged that we sucked (How bad is it that we are happy that someone at least acknowledged that something is wrong?), he has also acknowledged that we aren't going to make any wholesale changes. In other words- he doesn't know how to fix it, and therefore won't.

B: I can't see this guy becoming more aggressive of a play caller overnight. I hope I'm wrong.

Believe me- if we go 1-11, I'm going to be pissed. Especially in light of the fact that we should have been able to find a decent DC.

you guys need to realize that you cant make chicken salad out of chicken sh#t. Get some players and then start to ***** if it still doesnt go well , but there is no point in slamming this guy at this point.

we gave up 49 points and 600 yds based on the defensive scheme called by the coach....you would think after about 200 yds rushing, we would have adjusted and done something different....nope....and that, my friend, is all coaching

very very very croomy

It feels like the consensus on the pack is that we are just gonna have to face the fact that we are going 1-11 this year. That is such damn ********. I am sorry that I am the lone jackass in the wilderness crying out, but Mullen's play calling was bland as cardboard. No matter how ****** the talent is, the plays being called can be much more creative. I am sick of being losers. We've had a decade of loserdome. 17 that noise. Mullen needs to start pulling rabbits out of his hat.

The defense has been decent, sometimes really good, in all of Croom's years. These players aren't as bad as what happened at Auburn. The scheme sucked. The lack of adjustments sucked. The lack of preparation against no-huddle sucked.

If we had done everything possible to try to win and stop them on defense, and we didn't. If we had blitzed, mixed up our coverages, and made adjustments throughout the game and THEN still gave up 49, then I would say it's the players. That wasn't the case.

And on top of that, Torbush looked completely lost.

I think we are happy about that because the last head coach blamed players and never took responsibility for himself or his coaches. Moving to a four man or five man front is not a "wholesale change". Changing some players is not either. Scrapping an entire defense and starting over is not as easily done as just saying so. There is 6 weeks of work behind this. I am NOT excusing our piss-poor performance. Moving some folks around in the secondary may indeed help. Better talent would help more.

I disagree. When Auburn actually did throw it, they could literally launch it up and know that if anyone was around wearing blue, they would catch it and our secondary could not stop them at all. We suck that bad in the secondary. I watched them throw a damn jumpball while Z. Smith watched it come down into the WR's hands and he had 5 seconds to think about it before it got there.

Does Torbush still have alot to show me? yes

Do I think he should have made changes? yes

Is it also a product of what he has to work with? resounding YES

Won't most teams complete passes when the quarterback is given all the time in the world. No matter how good the coverage is (I'm not saying our secondary is world class), won't receivers eventually get open for completions.

much Mullin dumbed down because it was his first road game as a head coach? In saying that, could all the coaches have done that? I suspect Mullin will learn alot this year as a head coach when it comes to coaching ( his asst's), players, and what it takes to win on the road.

on this schedule from hell. We could be a much improved team over last year and still end up at 4-8 or worse. EVERY team we have left at home (6 games) will likely be ranked when we play them. That means if we don't pull a fairly major upset then 5-7 is currently what we top out at. I personally feel at Vandy this weekend and at MTSU are our best chances at wins left for the year. That's a fairly depressing outlook. At Ark and KY are possible but we have not historically played well at either of those places and both programs are likely better this year than last. Now I readily admit that if we had the Ole Miss schedule I would still be full of eternal optimism and be hopeful of making a minor bowl.

5 top 15 teams scheduled at home. That has never happened before. Not to mention we have a secondary minus charles mitchell, that should be playing in the GSC not the SEC. Our defensive line is too thin and get winded easily, i.e. the no huddle offense auburn ran, and Chris White to this point in the season isn't worth all the hype. We won't be favored to win another game.
