Got the new album this morning, listened to it 4 or 5 times today, and here it is: If you're a fan of David Lee Roth-era Van Halen, and by fan, I mean you know more than the 12-15 songs they play on the radio, then you will like this new album. It is everything that's good about the first five VH albums*. And yeah, I hate that Mike Anthony isn't playing and singing on it, but I'll give credit, Eddie's boy has got some bass chops. I just don't like seeing him there on stage.

If you like Fair Warning and Women And Children First, you'll like A Different Kind Of Truth. The band is back together. Get it, in stores today.

* - Disclosure: The 1984 album wasn't ever really my favorite, it has several good songs on it, but I rarely listen to it front to back. And it was very keyboard-y, which this new album is not.

Not their best work of course and most of it is made up of recycled demos, but if you're a fan of the original product then there's plenty to appreciate. Diamond Dave has lost some vocal range and Eddie's guitar tone is a little tamer, but the magic is still there. If anyone is planning on getting it digitally I highly recommend the deluxe edition on itunes. It's got several videos of an acoustic session consisting of new and old songs, as well as a funny anecdote from Dave.

Van Halen+David Lee Roth-Michael Anthony>Van Halen+Sammy Hagar-David Lee Roth. I really don't miss Michael Anthony's backup vocals on this one. They do just fine without him. The hipsters just need to chill out and accept the fact that this is a GOOD ALBUM.

I was pleasantly surprised but I always liked David Lee Roth with Van Halen much better than Sammy. DLR without Van Halen....not so much.

lulz i don't think any van halen album is on any hipster's radar, much less a van halen album released ~25-30 years after their prime. <div>
</div><div>unless they are trying to out-ironic their buddies of course.</div>

I like it a lot. Stay Frosty so far is my favorite song. I agree that it reminds me of Fair Warning and Women and Children First.

I'd say it fits between Women and Children First and Fair Warning, but only because all the guitar isn't panned to the left.
