state college is the modern equivalent of Tampa
_________________________________________________
and memphis state in the 60's. Their day in the sun in baseball is long gone and probably won't ever be back. Their basketball team is signing players that would make Barry Switzer run scared. Football team has been signing every non-qualifier everyone else can't get in school for the past 10yrs but somehow state college can get them in and the arrest records would fill a bank vault. Cohen is just what we needed to happen to state in baseball. Look for lots of open schollys and open positions in their lineup next fall.

just flip the schools and you have it.

Come to think of it, the place is still like that even when Ole Miss is doing well.

He was right about this. Although, I don't think you have to exactly be Nostradamous to come up with that.

Statements like that put a smile on my face. Pissed off rants like that are directly related to our success/potential in athletics. The more of that **** the merrier for me. Bring on the slandering mother 17ers - you can kiss my msu ***. A content Mississippi fan only means we aren't doing ****.

Please insert whatever Powe reference you would like. Was it Tubby who revoked his scholarship after talking to him and figuring out there was no way he could get him in school?

...all these "cool" rebels that post here all the time feel exactly the same way this Spirit poster does.

The only difference is, unlike the typical Spirit poster, the "cool" rebels probably have at least some college-level English Comp. talent when it comes to grammar & syntax.

Which means when they ******** us, (and believe me, they are professionals when it comes to bullshitting MSU fans) it just sounds prettier.

Someone went to the ballpark expecting a great sunny day of many Hoddy Toddys, and putting the "lesser college in their place". But instead got pissed off from getting hoarse by yelling "throw it in the dirt", getting rained on, and watching the coach that will never do anything at MSU take a team half filled with players that have no business in the SEC beat the juggarnaut that is the 09 UM baseball team.

So the obvious thing to do it go write some hypocritical rant on a message board to hopefully get some internet high fives and give them a renewed sense of belonging. Then he goes back to piecing together old ticket stubs to make himself an honorary degree from UM since he has never stepped foot in an academic building on campus to do anything other than to take a piss on a Saturday.

I'll put it this way. I'm just as pissed about the outcome of this series as I would be if it were UT or Auburn we were playing. My frustration has to do with playing at home against one of the worst teams in the SEC with a chance to make a move toward an SEC title and coming out and choking in two straight. Some of the Spiriters are upset more about losing to State. To me, it's more about blowing an opportunity at an SEC title than who we lost to.

You and I both know that as much as you'd be pissed about losing a series to UT or Auburn, you're more pissed that you lost to us.

Seriously, at this point with our baseball program, it's all about two things, winning an SEC title and getting to Omaha. Who we beat or lose to along the way doesn't really matter to me. It's all about Bianco getting over that hump, not about individual opponents. This weekend is a blown opportunity.

it's not like you lost to LSU or anything like that.

I know you're being sarcastic, but in reality, losing 2 to LSU meant a whole lot more this year due to the fact that it means we're on the wrong end of a tiebreaker that may come into play. Losing 2 to you so far has just meant that we're blowing a chance to gain ground on the teams around us. The tiebreaker between us won't come into play.

ETA: I'm not one of those that gets in the rivalry argument. When I was a little kid, I thought LSU was our only rival, because your football team was so bad at the time that the game never really meant that much despite the in state rivalry. When I got around high school, MSU passed LSU on my list, and it's still that way.

MSU's football record since integration hit the SEC is virtually indistinguishable from Mississippi's.

I didn't say we were good. It just wasn't that big of a game when I was a kid. I grew up in the 80s, and State was awful for most of that decade until Sherrill came along. We weren't much better, but that didn't make a difference for me as a kid. LSU was the game that got most of the attention when I was a kid. For me, it was really the 1992 Egg Bowl before I started to see State as a more important game.

When I was a kid, I watched highlights of our 1986 win over LSU all the time. Never watched Egg Bowl tapes. For all I knew, LSU was the team we wanted to beat the most. Nobody ever told me otherwise. I figured it out on my own.

that condescending crap is a downright lie. I've never in my life, in the 34 years I lived in Mississippi, in the 8 different towns i lived in, met ANYBODY that considered LSU to be a more important game than State. Losing to State hurts you bastards to the core- always has, always will

I think a Dan Mullen coached MSU team is bowl bound and beating Ole Miss within 3 years, maybe 2.

I think Stans is a better program builder than Kennedy. And can probably handle his drank a little better, too. (Kentucky native, so, yeah).

I think you got a new coach in baseball and are rebuilding a program. That's all I really know. I couldn't name you Ole Miss' starting 9.

I agree with you. Nobody I knew considered OM a rival as Bama was always a bigger game.

I'm just telling you about my childhood. No one ever told me who our rivals were, and the only Ole Miss fans around me were my family. We didn't discuss the rivalries. I cared more about the LSU game up until around 92 when it started to switch over to State. Prior to that, the MSU game hadn't ever gotten me excited, and I really hadn't developed animosity for MSU.

All I knew is that our fans said Go to Hell LSU a whole hell of a lot. There was very little reference to MSU when I was at games outside of the Egg Bowl. So naturally, I thought LSU was our rival until I was old enough to figure out they weren't the only ones, nor the biggest one.

For the record, I didn't grow up in Mississippi, so I wasn't around a ton of MSU fans or Ole Miss fans for that matter.

..no MSU fan gives a flying **** about what you think.

That's why it would work out real well for everybody involved if you would post what you think in your forum & we post what we think in our forum.
