Saw him twice. Saw Crosby, Stills and Nash at Louisville Gardens then I saw them at whatever the arena where the Pacers play with Neil Young. That was a weird concert. They took turns singing. When it was someone other than Neil Young, they did CSNY stuff and no solo stuff. When it was Neil's turn it was all his solo stuff and none of the songs he sung for CSNY. No Ohio.

I think many of us are surprised he lasted this long. Easily could have been gone 30 -40 yrs ago.

I remember in his doc or the doc on music in the valley how he said he wanted to die on the road performing.

Of the three in CSN, I believe he was clearly the least talented but most opinionated. Had an overblown view of his own greatness and talent, imo. Through the years, slagged off almost every band he wasn't in (and, sometimes, slagged on bands he WAS in). Seemed like a pretty bitter old man. Had a hand in some very fine music but not someone you'd want to come to dinner, for sure.

Amazing that he lived so long.
Major drug problems, alcohol, prison seven years, liver transplant, diabetes.

Helluva run.

With his drug problems, he alienated Stills and Nash and they had not spoken to him in years and did not want to reconcile. Sad.

Stills was easily the most talented of the three but even with all their problems they had a great run.

I saw CSN in the early 80s, and remember "Southern Cross" as the highlight of the show. Still love the tune.

That being said, I thought Neil Young had more talent than the other three put together. Years later, when asked why he left CSNY, I recall Young's response as being something along the lines of the following:

"We got to a point where I wanted the band to create a more funky sound . . . and then realized that "funky" was the very last thing those guys wanted to be" :D

Always looked like he enjoyed eating a good kielbasa while painting a canvas.

No comment about Crosby, but a lot of celebrities are like that, really no reason to be jerk to us common folk.

Interestingly... Graham Nash is almost universally hailed as the nicest person in the biz. He is literally the polar opposite of Crosby... in the same band... go figure lol.

Absolutely.

If you read enough musicians or music industry bios (Bill Graham especially), you'll find out pretty quickly that Crosby was an arrogant ***.
I never read those but I've seen enough interviews to make my own opinion. Crosby's mother's family was from New York elites. That may have played a role in his personality.
