My mom’s was Powers Boothe. She always found time to stop puttering around in the kitchen to watch him. It wasn’t until late in life that she confessed. I got her to watch Deadwood just before she passed away after she asked me for some good shows to watch. I mentioned Powers Boothe and that’s all it took

The short stories are terrific also. Norman Maclean was a tragically underrated author. I wish he’d written more.

I give Redford a ton of credit for spotting a great story and for turning it into a classic film.

Also “Young Men and Fire,” excellent. Yes, Maclean wrote beautiful prose.

Redford directed “A River Runs Through It,” one of my favorite films. You won’t find a film more beautiful than this one.

I typically am not a "drama" movie fan because life usually has enough of its own so I don't feel the need to pay to watch it .... but good call. Excellent movie.

Everybody has said he was a really great and unassuming guy who cared so much about the environment. He was truly sui generis (one of a kind).

Redford was in some great movies. But I always found it hilarious that he would never consent to getting his hair cut to fit his part. He kept his 60’s foppish hair style even in his westerns and in The Sting. I remember some old school director or actor bitching about Redford’s hair in some of his movies.

He also wrote the amazing Young Men and Fire. He died before it was done, so it had to be finished by a team, but it’s still a great story

“Young Men and Fire is a 1992 non-fiction book written by Norman Maclean. It is Maclean's story of his quest to understand the Mann Gulch fire of 1949 in Montana's Gates of the Mountains Wilderness, and how it led to the deaths of 13 wildland firefighters, 12 of them members of the USFS Smokejumpers. The book was a national bestseller and won the 1992 National Book Critics Circle Award for General Nonfiction.”

You beat me to it. I met the son of the Smokejumper’s Foreman (Walt Rumsey) - one of only 2 that survived as he set a backfire and crawled into the ashes as the fire leapt him) at a hostel in Clifden, Ireland in 1997. We were sitting in the common room and were discussing books we read. I mentioned it and he mentioned his father. Crazy coincidence

Sneakers is one of my favorites.

Pretty sure you saw Winter Soldier. Not a huge part but fun.

RR got the Oscar for directing Ordinary People. I recall how hard that film hit me when I saw it. Redford got the best out of all the actors.

Great line here by Redford in abridge to far. True story that allies had a small window to move Their tanks forward but they didn’t. Window closed and the rest of that battle is history.
