I watched Phillips v Simenon - neither team was much good. Phillips folks will be disappointed when they "play up."

Won’t be running clock. Raby will score some but Phillips has too much speed. 38-21
I disagree here, Raby has given up 18 points all year. I don't see Phillips getting 38, their strength is defense, not offense. I see 21-0 or 21-7.

so you think that was a great display?
Yes 2 great defenses going at each other sometimes makes one mistake great defense for ragged play. Simeon has scored 168 points in their last 3 games while Phillips has scored 155. There is no better defense in the state than Phillips.

That's when I removed Phillips from my top 10. That game against half of Loyola's starters has them super inflated.

Hilarious, the number keeps going up. In a couple more weeks LA folks will be claiming they sent their JV team :)
At the time of the game I was aware of 7-9 starters out.

and the last time a 3A/4A team beat top 8A team was when exactly?
Not a top 8A team with 7-9 starters out. And one yard from losing to a team with half the starters out. It's good for 3A/4A. However, the game against Simeon is more what Phillips really is. Which again is good for 3A/4A. But imagine Stevenson losing to LA with half the starters in street clothes, you cant even do it.

I'd love for you to come up with that list, i'll be waiting.

Left tackle, Running Back, and Wideout makes 3. Who else are you going to add to the list?

I'm curious to see this list as well since it seems to keep growing. 3 starters from a program that regularly reloads and has around 150-200 kids on three levels doesn't seem like much.

Simeon vs Phillips is a major rivalry game with many of the kids growing up and playing together/against each other. You have to take that into account when these two meet.

I guess we agree to disagree. I guess I give extra points for doing that,...

I dont have to come up with the list. I trust what the Loyola people have said. Are you suggesting Loyola people were so worried about Phillips that they came up with a contingency plan in case they lost?

October 1 must be the beginning of silly season.

@Gforce5 I do give Phillips credit for beating a Loyola missing a lot of starters. It's just not enough to warrant a top 10 IMO.

7 starters will not play against Phillips in week 1: RB1, QB1, 2WR's, D1 O-lineman (Gross) and 2 additional starters. LA may be in trouble the first couple of weeks, but I can assure you that no one will want to see them in the playoffs.

The injuries are legit. Broken bones and soft tissue. Most ( but not all ) will be back within the first month but you know, even the Patriots would have a rough go of it if you take out their star players. On top of it, they are replacing a lot of guys this year and team chemistry will need to be developed. That's why football is a great game - you never know until they play.

QB1 played and was the only reason they got the 14 points they got or they would have been shutout. Next excuse.

Their defensive end/outside lb and corner. Qb was cleared to play 3 days before the game after sitting out all summer with an injury. 5 guys may not seem like a lot to you, but look at the positions - playmakers, every single one of them, including the tackle who protects the qb.

Replacing a lot of starters from the prior season does not count as missing players! If that's the case Phillips was missing 15 starters.

Yeah LA is so low on numbers they probably had to use freshman to fill those holes...

It over's and done........let it go......Here is the quote that matters....'But if we are healthy at the end of the year I guarantee no one will want to play us. We might be a completely different team by the end.” that is the LA head coach before the season....LA has rolled since that game and gotten back those players. Injuries are part of the game and good for Phillips - they are willing to play a 8A team and try to get better ! It is good for LA to loose.....going 27-1 the last two years is awesome - but you need to loose to remember what that feels like and to understand it doesn't feel good ..........so come week 14 this year they know...........hopefully they remember....... The victories of tomorrow are born out of the despair of the defeats of today...........

I'm sure the replacements we're serviceable. But Phillips doesn't get credit for beating Loyola at full strength or even close to.

Nice win for a 3A/4A team of course. Just not top 10 quality considering it took a goal line stand. Perhaps if Phillips walloped them I'd be more inclined to rank them. Instead I have to judge Phillips by Simeon and Richards. Simeon lost all their non-conference games, even to a team that lost to DGN. Richards is a decent team I assume. But neither win was impressive enough to Garner top 10 talk. I'd probably put Phillips around 20 give or take a couple.

Thanks rambler8155, didn't mean to turn this into a Phillips/LA thread.

Getting back on track it's hard to find much info on Raby. From what I understand from 2 years ago when the core of this team was freshman, this is a group of players who have played together since way back in grade school days and did very well and have stayed together. Does the name Chicago Vikings Youth football mean anything to anyone on here?

Raby kids grew up playing against Phillips kids as the Vikings vs the Mightymen/Wildcats. They have been clashing for many years.

Vikings, Wolfpack, Mightymen/Wildcats, Bulldogs, Jaguars, Trojans, Buccaneers were the top programs in the now defunct CPS elementary tackle football league. There isnt a winning HS program in the city who didnt benefit from that league public or catholic. Such a shame CPS decided not to fund them anymore. There is no doubt it has ultimately led to the increase in forfeits and CPS football being in the state it is in now.

Come on - you know as well as anyone here that the coaches of all teams know who the starters are and as such get the majority of the reps. If they get hurt, then yes, a number 2 will play. That's the reality. Personally, I give Phillips all the credit in the world and haven't given it a second thought until seeing the post this am. Who cares about the 2 pre season games anyway?

I dont know that Phillips at Richards game I went to , game was never in doubt. Was 33-14 as I left saw Richards score a perfunctory td at end. major D1 kids on team. Richards is solid to. if Phillips was 6A only team id pick over them is PR. 7A only East StL.

So if 7-9 of Penn State's top starters went down, does that mean North Central College has a chance?
