No one brought this up yesterday. I'm guessing this is just Saber rattling by Davis Jr?

I wonder about the wisdom of a bunch of drunken want to be felons, decked out in all black clothing, Darth Vader and skull masks early in the season, with an average high temperature of 95 for the entire month of September. I'm sure absolutely nothing bad would happen.

You know what...I have never looked it up but is the crime rate higher in Vegas?

Oakland vs Vegas? I'd imagine Oakland us hogher. My point is just about the temperatures early in the season. There's a reason there's a dome in Phoenix. Does he think they will build one there?

The thinking is the NFL will never allow it because they don't want the association of the league with gambling. They've taken a pretty hard line in the past against even allowing Vegas-related advertising during the Super Bowl, even advertising that doesn't mention gambling or casinos. It would take a major reversal for them to allow a team in Vegas.

Actually, there has been a huge outflow of people from Southern California to the Vegas suburbs to escape our ridiculous taxes on income, property, gas, and utilities. They also moved to leave the congestion, crime, and general degradation of parts of the state into essential third-world status. A large number of these folks are well-heeled and when you combine them with some of the Vegas high-rollers and people in town on vacation who want to catch a game, a Vegas pro football crowd might be a group of decent folks.

I wouldn't think much of this at all.

I live between Austin and San Antonio, couple weeks ago the Raiders bought a tract of land here, and threatened to move team to San Antonio. Red McCombs (former owner of Vikings) is behind the push.

But none of it's going to happen. They'll wind up in LA, second banana to the Rams.

Don't know if they could win a court challenge on that. If he's anything like his father he's up to the fight.

Liberal leadership and policies at its best. And yet....they'll still get elected

I live in Vegas but no chance. The location that they are discussing is literally at the end of the runway to McCarran. While they have touted sound-dampening technology in the dome, they could never have the dome open, and I still cannot believe that they would get FAA approval for the location. Al Davis dreamed for years about bringing the Raiders to LV. The biggest hurdle is not the gambling IMO; it is that we live in a city that has failed to support even minor league baseball, basketball or hockey. There is no football tradition in this town upon which to build (other than betting on it). People in smaller major league markets (Memphis, OKC, etc) will support major league sports because that is the focus of their entertainment dollar and they have a loyalty to their city. Residents of LV remain largely transient and without any true allegiance to the city, while have a multitude of entertainment options relative to the size of the city. I remain highly skeptical of this announcement, which is suspicious in its timing coming from both Mark Davis and Sheldon Adelson.

Being at the end of the runway doesn't seem to bother the US Tennis Center next to LaGuardia.

I don't know about this. I think there is a ton of traction to what is going on. You don't really need an allegiance. There would be plenty of people that would come to Vegas just to watch their team play. Also, when the pools are closed and you are looking for something to do during the day, this might be a viable option. I can see it both ways, but I definitely think it could work. Also, there is a potential for just too much money to be made there. Not saying your wrong, I'm just saying I could see it happening and it would be pretty cool.

Yes, an investor wants to build a 60,000 seat dome for UNLV that could also be used by an NFL team. 590 talked about this last week

I appreciate the analogy. USTA/Billie Jean King Center and CitiField are 2 miles as the jet flies from the end of the runway at LaGuardia. Adelson's proposed site is literally across Tropicana Avenue from the north end of the runway.

As to Leodis's point, maybe. Other than the NBA All-Star Game (and UNLV 25 years ago), spectator sports attendance has a checkered record in Las Vegas. Of course I wish that the NFL would come to Las Vegas, even if it meant that I would have to go to Raider games. However I am not holding my breath.
