This is not meant to discourage anyone from coming to the game, but if it rains it will be one miserable trip to and from Asheville. It would be bad enough, if it was dry.
I think Google Maps first choice is I-40 to I-77. I might have thought I-26 to 74 to I-85. Either route, rain, or no rain, when you get to within about 50 miles of Charlotte, there is no good way to get to Weddington.

I live here in Charlotte very near Sun Valley high school and I travel to Asheville every week for the ACR games. I-40 to 321 to 85 then 485 is the quickest. I’m about 7 miles from Weddington. Most ACR fans will be riding buses so they won’t have to drive in the rain.
Your route does sound more logical, and considering how often you drive it, you should surely know. Weather forecasters have become amazingly accurate, but hopefully they are wrong this time, and it won't rain.
