Having just finished his first season coaching at his alma mater, he will make $272,500. He was at $250,000 last year. Linebackers coach Trent Bray, defensive line coach John Parrella, wide receivers coach Keith Williams, offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh and running backs coach Reggie Davis all have updated deals that now run through Jan. 31, 2019, according to contracts received by the Journal Star upon request.

According to USA Today's most recent annual assistant's salary report based off 2016 earnings, a payment pool of $3.950 million for assistants would put Nebraska 17th highest nationally — although there are about 20 FBS schools that are exempt from having to release those figures. (Penn State is one of those due to state law in Pennsylvania.)

Based off the salaries that are public, however, Nebraska's pay for its football assistants ranks third in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State (which paid out $4.583 million to its assistants last year) and Michigan ($4.308 million).

Where does Nebraska rank in total coaches pay? Not just assistants

Heck yeah they should. From what I've heard Parrella is a genuine seller and recruiter and is just not a BS'er when it comes to that or coaching. Same as Bray. Both recruited good talent for the '17 class.

It wasn't unusual to hear that Coach T O let his salary run low so his assistants could be paid better. HCMR is going to cut from a similar cloth; imo, so spare the whats deserved stuff - look at Harbaugh.

It's a good approach and will hopefully allow us to keep high-performing assistants for a long time. "All In The Family"

Parrella is a check collector/casher who came from some backwater program and took the rightful job of some splash hire. Get back on message dude ;)

I still don't understand why they didn't go after Orgeron!!! Can you imagine Les Miles as DC and Orgeron as DL coach?!?! Just think what we could have if the AD and coach weren't such donkey brained morons!

Bray has doubled up his salary and 2 seasons in, his position group hasn't improved. He did a nice job in 2015 then took a few steps back in 2016.

Reported that Bray had other job offers and turned them down to stay at Nebraska. Of course, he got a $75,000 bump for 2017 which puts him at $325,000.

From what I read he was at $250,000 but turned down the other job(s), got a $75,000 raise for 2017 and by 2018 will make $400,000.

$400K in 2017, $425K in 2018.

For the second straight year, Bray also received a significant salary hike with his new contract, which was signed Feb. 1. He is scheduled to earn $400,000 this year and $425,000 in 2018. He was set to make $325,000 this year under his previous contract.

I also want to add that JP is one heck of a nice guy. From the times I've met him him he is genuine & honest, plus his enthusiasm is top notch.

Parrella should be making more and got a much bigger raise after this past season and pulling in 4 recruits.

But there are those who would explode; even here. Expect great things. IMO he knows he is on track to make 400k in 2-3 years with results for cover. That seems to be the number. If we are winning the West, OSU and MI, don't like anyone paying more - So HCMR will keep things in line personally and will have cover to pay assistants on a national level.

I suspect coming from where he was, JP is unbelievably grateful and happy with his package. Dream job and a great salary.

Not sure what the NFL pension is or when he can start drawing, but he should be vested. A friend of mine gets more from his MLB pension than he ever made when he played.

Looked it up and his last salary I could find was 2.85 million. Of course he played in Oakland so I' m sure the People's Republic of California took at least half. He played 13 years and he can draw around 77k/ year I think at age 55 (corrected #). Not nearly as good as MLB. I think he's about 49 but I think he'll be fine..Laughing

I have also heard three years before. I have not read anything lately, and its always subject to change. I believe different positions can have different rules. So it may have been 3 years for running backs and 5 for linemen. I think I read that OJ gets about 300,000 a year pension; which cannot be attached - so he is coming up on parole or such; this was in an article I glanced at. I think you could Google OJ and get his numbers and follow from there. GBR

It is 3 years but your pension increases up to roughly 77k if you start drawing at age 55 depending on how many years you were on a roster. I'm not sure at what point (years on roster) you max out your pension.
