Ran into Coach Sherrill before the game yesterday and spoke for a minute.....

It's still a winning record. Heck, even Sylvester Croom swept you at home. Not only that, but Dan Mullen's undefeated and you'll never win the Egg Bowl in the forseeable future. For the past quarter century, The Mississippi State University has a winning record...all this all includes the greatest Era in Integrated Ole Miss football history as well as our "Tech and 10" season, and the end of the Sherrill Era when OM spents Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars hiring PI's to investigate everything the MSU Athletic Dept. was doing (instead of plowing that money into your own sports programs).

I see our rivalry being similar to the one between Ohio U. and The Ohio State University....one a small, pseudo-elitist liberal arts college that plays in a small to mid-level Division 1 conference, while the other becomes the Flagship University of OUR State, with all the plusses and minuses that come from Large Comprehensive Universities that everyone in Our State roots for.</p>

football program as it is a dumpster fire at the moment. I'm just pointing out, and the archives of this very board circa 2004 will back me up, that there is some major revisionist history going on around here concerning Jackie Sherrill.

And I agree that, barring unforeseen circumstances, we will not win the Egg Bowl next year.

and remember all the good he did for our program. He raised expectations for MSU.

Even with the horrendous performance Sherrill put in 2001-3, as well as the bulk of the Rockey years, The Mississippi State University still leads the series in the last 25 years. You take away those horrible years, our record is 11-8. Not as dominant as it was during the Segregationist Vaught years or today'sMullen bitchslappings, but winning nonetheless.

Sherrill did a lot for our program, but he also tore it down and left us in worse shape than we'd been in since the 60s. He's at least as responsible as Crxxm is for the worst decade in our history.

we were the team that nobody else in the league wanted to play b/c we would knock the piss out of you. No offense to Mullen or the current group of Dawgs, butthe most thrilling games and plays from the past 20 years of MSU football happened under JWS. There are simply too many to name but the 1999 seasonwas loaded with unbelievable comebacks at Auburn, against Ole Miss, and Kentucky just to name a few. The wins over Texas in 1991 and 1992 which started his career at MSUwere huge for our program at the time. Beating Bama 3 consecutive years and watching JJ Johnson absolutelyshred the Bama defense in Tuscaloosa was particularly sweet. Sure, he lost control of the program at the end for the reasons named, but his impact was undeniable. Take a look at the number of players we put in the NFL under Jackie. Some of them are still there. Oh and the "Mississippi" Rebels hated his guts. You gotta love him for that.

decade since the late '30s and early '40s. His troubles at the end were at least as much the NCAA's fault as they were his. The endless investigation over what turned out to be trivial stuff hurt WAY more than the actual probation did. That was fully intentional on the NCAA's fault. They knew they didn't have much, so they brought JWS down in another way.

toward Jackie was NOT the view of the majority of MSU fans. I think most agreed that it was time for Jackie to go but weren'tas delighted about it as the posters here. Most were and are grateful for what he did for us. This board is gradually coming around to that view.
