There was one right next to the MSU golf course. If you liked evening golf, like me, then sometimes you could get a free preview while playing what was then the 17th hole, like me.

Did you know that road was my preferred route to buy cold beer at Johns grocery? My predecessors made sure the cops frequented Old West Point Road.

Yep, I remember giving up 2 cases of beer to a couple of Oktibbeha Deputies one night...it sucked but was better than getting a ticket for open container and underage drinking. Always seemed like the Sheriffs Dept. was a lot cooler and willing to work with you than the SPD.

Best BBQ place in Starkville was right down past the drive in on the left. Think it was called Sonny's. That's been 30 years ago.

It was called "Lakeside Drive In". You can see a couple holes of MSU golf course in upper right. I went a good bit when I was in school, just to try the popcorn and hot dogs they were the best!**

I was trying to figure out how this was possible, where was 17th green? If it’s the same as when I played was it because it is so elevated?

And, right there on the left side of the 16th Section Rd in the photo was the BBQ place that made Dooey's and Petty's seem like cheap gas station crap. Sonny's!

Lakeside Drive In had regular movies prior to going to X-Rated in the late 70s early 80s. I can remember the drive in having all nighters with something like dusk till dawn Planet of the Apes with 5 movies of the Planet of the Apes series back to back.
