I realize we did the same thing with Gary Ervin and I thought it was stupid then. I don't know why any coach would let a player go to their division rival. Was there more to the story with White? ie sick mother, homesick, etc.

Player: "Coach, I'm transfering to (insert conference rival here)"
Coach: Like hell you are.
Player: "Coach, if you dont sign my release, I'll tell everybody about the money/cars/etc that I got to come here"
Coach: "Have a nice time at your new school. Do you need a ride there?"

you can keep them from going on scholarship the first year but Malcolm is from BR so I don't know that it would stop him. There is no way to stop them from transferring there if they want to do it.

transferring within the SEC results in an additional year that you have to sit out, so even if you have a redshirt, you're going to lose a year of eligibility. It's not that a coach is letting them transfer;it's that he's letting them transfer without having to sit out two years.</p>

I think you are incorrect.

The player may have to pay their way, but they get to play after sitting out that 1 year.

There used to be a 2 year rule, which is why some people still get confused. Now, the only difference is release = scholarship during transfer year....no release = pay your own way during transfer year.
