Random thought: The Egg Bowl should have been 48 27.

Watching Bama punch it in at the end made me really wish we had run it up more on Ole Miss. Mullen needs to throw class out the window when it comes to the Egg Bowl.

sure, outsiders will see the score and say "oh it wasn't that bad of beatdown" but State and Mississippi fans alike know good and well it was an *** whipping.</p>

I don't think the average band wagon Ole Miss fan that keeps bragging to me about going to the Cotton Bowl really grasps just how bad we beat them down that day.

Mullen would have had to answer numerous questions about that as well. In other words, the focus would have been off of how well our team played in beating down OM, and would have moved rather to a final minute tack on TD. Bama gets away with that, we don't. Mullen did the right thing.

in every sense of the word.

But, you have to remember, in a game like that, heads got turned. Anger arose, coaches get fired, and games like the '09 Egg Bowl and countdowns occur.

The Rebel fans are still talking about the beating we got at Oxford last year, 45-0 "The Shutout" my brother-in-law has the print on his wall.
We should run it up any chance we get on those arrogant bastards.

the TD UM was given after the obvious OF pass interference by Hodge in the endzone! thats one still kills me, cuz they made it one of the plays of the week/yr. rewarding bad play?

Say what you will about State fans I dont think they'll ever brag about this years victory if we go to Oxford next year and get thoroughly whipped.

Those bastards did to us two years ago. but i think we will have another opportunity to do it again seeing as they will just about have a completely new set of starters on offense. Our D line should be able to kill their front and QB

Yep, I was mad during the 1st half of the '08 Egg Bowl. I got over it in the 2nd half knowing that SOB had just purchased himself a ticket the hell out of Starkville. Then, the post game press conference, "I don't know what happened" loosely quoted, was the final straw. I look at that game as the day they did us a favor.

But, we should have punched it in on that last drive. First of all, no matter what the score. They were going to make excuses and backhanded comments. Do y'all not remember all the "we are going to a bowl. "You are not." "The visting locker room has no showers", and on and on. Secondly, if we run the ball in for a TD. Nobody (outside OM fans) would even take notice. Now if we run a halfback pass......maybe but otherwise. No. Lastly, it doesn't matter if we won 41 or 48 to 27. They will be pissed and ready for revenge next year.

Jackie would have punched it in and went for two......in '05 and '09.

That game could've easily been 70-0. They could've named their score. They took it easy on us. We were just that pathetic.

Loosely quoted he said, "I saw that trophy and knew the quickest way to get it was to take two knees and get out of there."

He was right, it was the smart play and it guaranteed us a win without any damage. Saban was a moron when he punched it in. When the kicker missed the extra point that followed Texas was still within two scores of them. I realize its highly unlikely they score twice in the minute left, but still they gave Texas an out. He takes a knee the game is over and he is holding the trophy. I was hoping and praying that Bama would have somehow (highly unlikely I realize) given up two td's and two two-point conversions, then Saban could have been coaching overtime in a pink shirt.

The week after the Egg Bowl beat down my wife stops by at a restaraunt to talk to a woman who is an OM fan from our church. The topic of the Egg Bowl comes up. This woman, who had been drinking, just out of the blue starts bragging about the millions that Ole Miss is going to get for their bowl game and that my wife was not a true State fan because she did not actually go to the game (did not have enough tickets for both of us). I was waiting in the car so when my wife came out she was fuming and she normally does not even get caught up in the rivalry. All I could say was "You see what I have been talking about? We should not have kneeled at the end of that game."

Good point. The finish of the 99 game led to the motivation for us to win the 2000 game. The way the 07 game ended led to the way we dominated the 08 game. The embarassment of the 08 game led to your performance in the 09 game.

The Egg Bowl has been pretty back and forth for a while now because of that. If the previous year is particular emotional or embarassing, it often carries over the next year for the losing team more than for the winning team.

Firing Croom and hiring Mullen is what led to the 2009 Egg Bowl. Seriously, it makes no difference how the game is won. The previous year's loser always seems to have the most motivation.

I even remember by the end of the game, I was hoping they would drop 50 on us because I wasn't sure if 45 would be enough to get Croom fired.

Once Ole Miss went up 7-0 and I knew the game was out of reach, I was hoping for a 60 spot. 45 did it though, so everything turned out great in the end.

By the way, when will OM fans realize that the 45-0 game doesn't hurt my feelings? Throw it in my face all you want, it brings to mind a great moment in MSU football history - the moment when our program was saved from the trash heap. "Oooh, we beat you guys 45-0." My response: "Thanks."

A lot of our fans were ticked we didn't stick another in on LSU in 2008 to make it 38-13. Saban's just a prick, but most coaches aren't.

I know it didn't mean anything, but after that missed XP, Texas was still only down 2 scores. It would've taken a miracle of miracles, but to see Texas return the kickoff all the way, get the 2, onside kick, Hail Mary and the 2 to tie it would've been great just to see him have to eat **** for it. Too bad though. I really hate Alabama.
