I think one of the biggest advantages we have is at tight end and because of our inexperience at wr, we are going to need to focus on getting malcolm the ball. last year, TE accounted for 8 of our 28 TD's.....two of which went to Malcolm (missed the first 5 games). I think back to the way uk utilized james walen (a lot of that had to do with tim couch, but still) back in the late 90's, and how much it gave us fits. i think we could do the same with malcolm johnson. we all saw flashes of greatness during the tennessee game last year and can't help but think we could get more production out of the short passing game....perhaps its fools gold because, lets be honest, that tennessee defense was a joke. one thing is for sure, we are going to need somebody to step up.
another thing i think is absolutely imperative for the season is getting clausell some help on clowney. clowney is going to absolutely thunder-stomp tyler russell if clausell doesnt get help. if the gameplan is going to include tyler russell (as opposed to dak) leading us to wins over arkansas and ole miss, we have go to protect him from the manchild clowney....and its not all on blaine clausell.....as we all know too well, russell doesnt have the best pocket presence and too often sits like a statue in the pocket. that is a major concern going into that game specifically.
we have got to be extremely careful and execute in the passing game, otherwise, we are going to be forced into a one-dimensional offense and we all have seen the results of asking too much of our runningbacks against a stacked defense that doesnt respect the passing game.
also, has a deep threat emerged at all this offseason? we could use one badly if for nothing else, to loosen up the defenses.
