Is Maryland a step up from UCONN? I know the ACC > Big East, but the BCS bowl route is much, much easier in the Big East.

UCONN got destroyed by Oklahoma. I don't think UCONN will ever have enough talent to compete with the big boys, and he should get out now while he can get to an ok BCS program. I agree Maryland may have not been as big a step up as he could have gotten, but it's a good move for him. Bigger budget, better facilities, and a better conference. He should be able to recruit the Northeast area pretty well. Rutgers is down, BC is down, Pitt really underachieved. and even though Syracuse did well, they stillhave a ways to go. and There really aren't any big name schools near him, justa bunch of middle of the road schools he can compete for recruits against. He should do well there.

strategy is over played on this board. To think a coach would make a decision solely based on or even give it considerable weightdoesn't add up. As already mentioned there are a lot of reasons to take the Maryland job over the UCONN job.

I can't think of very many, at all. If his goal is to get a better job, make more money, and get to a large, national program... going to Maryland is doing nothing but starting over what he accomplished at UCONN. If he stays at UCONN and has a 9 or 10 win season next year, he'll be the hot name again next year (and doing that in the Big East will be fairly easy). To me, going to Maryland is just the same as when he went to UCONN. I don't get it.

They will own the Big East. So the ACC might be an easier route to the BCS now. Also UCONN is like Kentucky; BB first FB second.

Without actually, you know, having facts:
Maryland seems like they are in a better conference.
Maryland seems like they are a bigger program.
Maryland seems like they could/would pay more.
Maryland seems like they have a higher ceiling.

UCONN, to me, is a 4th best program in the worst BCS conference. Yes i know they won it this season, but i would say Pitt, WVU, and USF are better/have a higher long term potential as programs.
Meanwhile in the ACC you have VT and FSU as perennial solid teams and thats about it.

Plus, who wouldnt want to coach a program whose saying is 'Fear the Turtle'?!?!

if they ever get their act together, they can be a force. I think North Carolina has a lot of potential as a program as well.

I have to put myself in the Maryland is a lateral move at best crowd.

I have. Other than UConn, there's nothing. I mean, literally nothing. Starkville in the 80's was a happening place by comparison.

Maryland is a BB school as well!! Gary Williams owns that University... they just fired Ralph after he had a 10 win season.... VT, Miami, NC and now FSU with Jimbo seems to be gaining some ground on getting back to where they were...Terrible move for Edsel, Terrible post for you...
