Thought I’d make a thread for the Raney’s decision this morning just so the discussion would be easier to find.

The twins will be announcing their commitment live on FRL at 10 this morning.

Their top 5 is Iowa, us, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Illinois. However the smoke seems to be that us and Iowa are the top 2 and most of the rumors favoring us.

I came (peacefully) over from the Iowa boards so see what you guys thought about Vega and Hughes.
I think Vega will grow and we probably see some creativity with shirts to maximize these guys opportunities. Using the RS rules are going to create some entertaining Wrestling lineups and I’m excited!

Hughes, not sure, it’s been quiet about him.

The shirt creativity does buy everyone a year of starting, but its only a year . Vega growing then just runs into Robideau, Hickman, Lockett...and that's after Jamison/Swiderski are gone. Lots of growing and moving up to be had. Hard to tell how everyone will grow between now and then - especially for HS Juniors. Certainly not a bad problem to have however you look at it. PSU has been doing it for years now.

You can just bump up Robideau to 165 and Dee to 174. Nothing against Hickman but I don’t think he ever starts.

Buys 3 years for guys currently with red, med and Olympic. Possible greyshirt situations also.

I'm still not sure how Willie keeps ranking Bassett #1 over Jax but whatever floats his boat. Changes nothing about who I'm glad we have out of the two, both super talented.

Crazy good talent in the room over the next few years. I'm excited to have them all in the room and when/if someone decides to transfer out due to starting spot then more power too them and I wish them all the best. Now if you leave like an AJ did then maybe not as much success as otherwise implied in my prior statement :)

Unpredictable things happen all the time. A couple of years ago we had CC and BT headline a class, both upper weights and both highly rated. Resulted in zero points at nationals so far and only one of them is still on the team. I'm going to sip the Kool-aid for a bit longer and bask in the excitement of these kids committing because I've seen them wrestle and love their style. Going to wait until they get on campus before I start worrying about where everyone will be. No one pays me to make those decisions and the folks that do pay me would be pissed if I wasted too much time thinking about it.

Totally agree. At first I thought the same, Bassett over Forrest. But after JF’s golds in the seniors and Pan American I don’t see how he isn’t regarded as #1 for all HS kids currently. He’s been dominant competing against great and older competition.

If we can get them that would give us 1, 3, 4, 7 and 10 on Flo's Big Board for 2026. Is that good?
Those are old rankings from the first edition they put out in late 2023.

As of 4/11/25, Flo 2026 Big Board rankings are:

2. Jax Forrest
4. Dreshaun Ross
5. Jordyn Raney
6. Jayden Raney
36. Kellen Wolbert
100. Rocklin Zinkin

Willie ranks them as 2, 3, 6, 7, 22, and 39, respectively.

Even though Flo has Jax above Bo in their P4P best list, they put Bo as the 1 because of his intangibles (his fame basically), with the thinking that it brings a lot of valuable attention to a program and is a recruiting tool to have him. Maybe Willie is using the same logic as Flo, or maybe he just thinks Bo is the better wrestler. They're both great.

It is true this time. These guys are coming for the best reasons that make champs, not money.
I'm actually shocked that with the Room the Raneys saw in front of them, that they accepted the challenge. I only have respect for that. I didn't know if they had it in them to accept that mountain. I misjudged them. Color me impressed.

Great recruiting, it is going to be fun watching these star recruits compete. Maybe this is super great recruiting?

Ross scares me. if his shoulder holds up, he may be a multi time champ.
