Rank the free agent QB's, and do you want any of them on your team?

OK, so I don't think all of these guys are officially free agents, but common sense tells me their all going to one soon, and with Kap we know for sure.

Kap
Romo
Cutler

My team is the Chiefs, and I feel like we already have a QB at least as average as any of these guys so I'd say no to all of them unless it was at a huge discount to the point you thought, WTF?

As a Lions fan, I am very content with Stafford. He is not the issue with the team.

If I am a team looking for a short term solution, like the Broncos or maybe even the Dolphins, I take Romo is a heartbeat. Culter and Kap I wouldn't touch.

I wouldn't touch any of those 3 with a 10 foot pole. Cutler is the moodiest QB in the league, Romo hasn't completed a season since 2009, and Kap was originally benched for Gabbert until Chip Kelly was told to start him.

As for the Chiefs, Alex Smith is still the right choice. I've always been a fan of Smith. He isn't going to win an MVP anytime soon but he's very smart with the ball and sneaky athletic.

Alex Smith has maxed out and the Chiefs will never contend as long as he's the signal caller. Now having said that, I'd still take him over the three I originally listed, but that doesn't make Smith anything more than a very average QB.

It's depends who else is available to a given team. If I'm a contender in need of a QB (say Denver), I'd look hard at Romo.
If I'm a team that's several years away from flirting with the Super Bowl (say Cleveland), I wouldn't touch any of them.

Pretty much.

I think the market for Kap is going to be pretty dismal, but who knows. We've seen some pretty crazy money thrown at some pretty average guys, but with Kap you have the added social warrior dimension some teams won't touch because the juice ain't worth the squeeze.

As a Dolphins fan, sigh, we are hitched to Tannehill for the next 4 years, no one is going to be dumb enough to take over that contract.

Johnny Football making a comeback too! Don't forget him. o_O

Anyway, as others have said.. if you have a good team that just needs a QB.. maybe try Romo for a year. If you are several pieces away... steer clear of those guys. If you are several pieces away and are going to draft a big name QB (like UNC's Trubisky)... maybe it makes sense to add Romo as a mentor for a season.

Alex Smith has been mentioned above... I think he is the most underrated QB in the league. I bet the 49ers are kicking themselves for going with Kaepernick a few years ago instead of Smith.

I never understood where he was picked in the draft, or the extension.

Ha! That is the Dolphins in a nut shell. Granted the Browns are a sh*t show, but the Phins are not far behind. They have so much money tied to Tannehill and Suh that they can't get any pieces to put around them. Granted they made the playoffs this year, so maybe their is hope, but Tannehill should have never been given that much money.

Romo is the only one that is not a locker room buster but he is also too fragile...so none for me. Thanks.

Alex smith is a game manager and a good one. Just not going to win many games on his arm.

Now there's a report out claiming a 3 way trade between some teams, and Romo is part of it, as is Cousins. You know what? If Romo isn't going to the Broncos, Cousins in Denver might be kinda great. Though if I'm the Broncos and I think Paxton Lynch has a future, I take Romo. If Paxton doesn't have the goods, I go with Cousins. This could get really interesting.

Kapernick sold out on his Black Power stance and refusing to stand for the National Anthem--now says he will stand for the Anthem. Funny how money talks and appears to change his almighty "convictions" - but hope the money does not talk to him! He would be nothing but a problem and high maintenance. Hope he is done in the NFL.

As a Bears fan, the stuff about Cutler's mood and body language are BS. He looks the same all the time, and actually if you hear him on radio he's great in an interview.

The problem with him begins and ends at ball security. He's a pro-style Tommy Armstrong. You don't know if he's gonna give you 3 TD 1 INT or 3 INT 1 TD plus a sack fumble or two.

Basically the Bears have the same thing in Hoyer but for a much lower price tag. I wish they would have sold high on Cutler after he had that one nice year.

I don't want Romo for the price he'll command. Good QB, but hard to believe he can stay healthy for a full 16, let alone the playoffs afterward.

As a trade, no way I want Romo. He's contract is huge. As a free agent, I wonder how much he will go for?

Still kind of a lot. He's clearly the best available in a league where the list of upper-tier QBs seems to be shrinking.

If he goes to the Jets or a another non-contender, I would guess he goes for a premium. I wonder how important a SB is to him. Will he go cheap to the Broncos or a possible contender?

Romo to the Broncos makes to much sense not to happen, the only possible hold up will be the $$$$$$. Both sides need each other and it's by far the best roster of all his potential landing spots. Texans are intriguing...but do they really eat all the guaranteed money tied up with Oswhatever?
