Ranking: if we beat UT, do we break into the top 10?

I was looking at the schedules of the teams ranked immediately above us. It looks like a few will suffer losses this weekend. Likely losses are Stanford (@ ND), either Oklahoma or Texas will lose, LSU could lose to USCe, and USC plays at Washington, which won't be a cake walk for them. Louisville plays Pitt. OSU plays BYU. Clemson Plays Va. Tech. Georgia plays Kentucky. Those aren't likely losses.

I think we definitely break the top 15 with a W, but would we jump enough (one loss) teams to break into the top 10? I would love to take 7-0 and a top-ten ranking to Tuscaloosa.

Look for us to be ranked ahead of LSU by the end of this weekend. That may mean LSU is ranked #25, but I expect them to lose and us to win.

I would think we'd be 13-16th after a Tenn win. Then beating MTSU I would think we'd be around 11 or 12 heading to Ttown.

A win against Bama would probably be top 5. At first, I thought top 10 would be ridiculous, but looking at the week after next.... it's actually plausible. Even though we're just playing MTSU, a couple of notable games are Oregon @ ASU, USCe @ UF, KSU @ WVU, BYU @ ND, LSU @ aTm, FSU @ Miami, Baylor @ Texas and VT @ Clemson.

It doesn't even have to be a perfect storm. It's guaranteed that a few teams ahead of us are going to lose. Maybe 1 or 2 that's not supposed to lose will give us a deeper push. But just looking at these next two weeks... it could very well happen. I honestly didn't think so before looking at the schedules. Gotta beat UT first though.

Even with all of that going on I think we get to around #12 at best if we win the next two games. Maybe that is the State fan in me. I don't know. It just seems to me that the way we are winning is not going to wow the judges. Heck it hasn't wow'd a lot of our own fanbase. I am on board with us trying to build depth, but it is undeniable that if we had blown out Troy, USA, and Kentucky that we would get higher rankings after a simple win over TN and MTSU.

At the end of the day though, we are talking about how good our ranking will be based on potentially an undefeated season rather than how awful our offense will be ranked after another Croom Coast Offensinve outing.

That's probably about right, but could be higher if some of the ones above us lose one of their two games. We were 8-0 going into Alabama several years ago, and I think in the top 10 then. Of course, we lost that game and as I recall, 2 more before the year was over.

Beat UT and I think we'll move up to about 15. I also agree. If we were to beat Bama and be 8-0 we should be in top 5 at least.

Top 3 if we win our next three games. Pretty good team if you go into Tuscaloosa undefeated and come out with a W.

If we are 8-0, the lowest we could possibly be is #4, if Oregon, Notre Dame, and South Carolina are all still undefeated.

No way.

If we are 9-0 and come off beating a unanimous #1 at home, we'd have to be top 4. I like dreaming about these things.
