We need to get those safety deposit boxes loaded up for next year.. Mullen is trying to play the game clean and the Bears' Nutt is cleaning his clock this year.

Mullen is playing the game in a way that retains his viability as a hot commodity. He needs one more nice year while he waits for viable options to come available. He really doesn't have to focus on long term stability of the program. Three years from now when the results of this class are on display, he's long gone. This is one of the down sides to our being a stepping stone. We have to live with it unfortunately, but it sure beats the hell outta being the coaching graveyard. At least we get a few seasons of moderate success.

Edit to add: I'd like to suggest that grasshopper consider ways to financially incentivize Mullen's replacement to focus on recruiting. Not sure how you do this properly or even if its doable. But it seems to me that there ought to be some way to make recruiting classes a viable metric for financial reasons. Let them know that there is a cost associated with lackluster recruiting.

to see where they will be ranked then and how Nutt is gonna actually figure out how and who to keep and let go.

after re-ranking, their class will go from around 8 to around 12-15. I think you'd see Mullen's class go from 40-45 to 38 or so.

maybe we should have just saved our money. I assumed we were kicking the salary up to 2.6 mil/year for Mullen to really build something special here. If we are just reconciled to the fact he's not staying we might as well put our extra money into strictly upgrading facilities. He may indeed leave but I am not by any means accepting it as a foregone conclusion. And even besides that its become obvious that nobody in the SEC is going to get in trouble with the NCAA for illegal recruiting tactics with the current SEC environment unless you do something so blatantly stupid or obvious that the SEC can't cover your back.

staffs. I know Mullen is going to say all the right things, but I'm wondering if he'll throw soemthing in that points to what happened. Some sly comment.

Also, Nutt should jsut giggle the whole interview.

Mullen should say :

Times are changing. Sometimes things jstu dont work out. Unless we continue to win on the field, we won't be able to stop this. Nobody wins championships on Feb 4th. Forget about the recuiting for now, we have to concentrate on Spring. Under no cicrumstances will this change who we are. Can you see us in the SEC championship? Kool aid drinkers can, but so can I. Enough with all the recruiting talk, we have work to do. Defense wins championships and ours got better with soemof our recruits. My responsibility is to make sure we stay on track. Especially now, as we can make a big splash this year.

Arnold-esque.

Maybe I should send out some PMs asking people not to use hurtful words.

And don't say Penn State, Joe P is not going anywhere... If Mullen was going to go somewhere it would have been this year to UF. His wife likes S-Vegas and he is happy here. I just don't think we are buying players this year like we did in the past, especially after the Cam Newton fiasco. We are being watched closely by the NCAA now..

You obviously didn't pick up on why Mullen gave that interview to Marcello when he did. He mentioned people showing up on doorsteps etc... He knows what's going down, not sure what he'll do about it. Perhaps he learned something on how not to handle it last year.
