Time to expand the horizons a bit. Nappy Roots. Straight out of Bowling Green, KY. Big V and Prophet are doing solo stuff now, but me being me, I'm partial to the tracks that weren't released...and that verse "I'm so hungry I can eat a dyke" amused me to no end!

Mash and I have discussed RATM before...but give me your take. Zack's pure flow can hold it's own with 'regular' hip hop. BUT can we include RATM as a cousin to hip hop?

I'm like Star Trek...I go to places where no man has gone before. Panjabi MC. Jay did a collab with him but I went to to the original. Kid took the damn Knight Rider theme and made his flow work!

Yes, RATM was hip hop as hell, imo. They had it all. Zach had something to talk about, first of all, and he could spit. He brung the ruckus. Tom was like a wicked DJ setting the tone with crazy sounds.

BBDK trying to flex on me about rap. I LET you do it trying to be a basketball, but you can't **** on my rap knowledge homie. You read up on it, I have be listening to rap while you where still shitting yellow. Name on thing I posted in this thread that is bad ??? All you do is list something then start the bullying tactics, great ammunition and defense,,, for a novice.

***** *** probably never heard of Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane, Whodini. Check out Masta Ace and AZ, then get back at me.

LOL, wow. Your are truly the worst, do better.

You don't know more about hip hop than anyone in this thread, and certainly not me. Who do you think you're talking to?

Mel, Big Daddy Kane, Big L, Whodini...like I've said a million times, they are pioneers, it just doesn't sound good. Anything before 1990 sounds terrible, in fact. You can have all those corny rhymes...I appreciate them paving the way. Throw KRS/Boogie Down in there too...he can battle and rap, but his music is awful.

AZ? [eyeroll] Worshipped AZ when I was younger, 'How Ya Livin' still probably makes my All Time Disc.

Masta Ace? [laughing] You trying to impress someone? INC ride was heavy in my HS Buick. Get real.

I've seen the songs/recs you've put out over the year, and they all have one thing in common ------> Awful.

Know your audience, maybe you were talking to Mashburned who's just now discovering who Sermon is & learning about ATCQ. You've got the wrong dude, you can't school me on **** when it comes to hip hop unless you wanna go back to the mid 80s and before. Again, you can have all that mess. I know all those guys and their songs, I just don't like them. -- so please don't tell me about Afrika Bambaataa Grandmaster Flash....or even Rakim (although he's dope), I don't care. Don't really care for Public Enemy or Run DMC either, fwiw.

[sick]

As a parting gift, I'll leave you with a listenable song from one of your old school dudes. #DJBattlecat saved him on this one with that early 90's sound. I wore this single (tape) out.

Whodini even had a few cool songs once they were old...thanks to the 90's production boon. But all that corny old ****? Friends, Freaks, etc. C'mon man...that **** is TERRIBLE.

Who is your go to? Better get what is your favorite style?

I'm a pac worshipper, but I always relate to Houston area rap the best. I mean Scarface, UGK, Slim Thug etc just really always never dislike anything from there.

Easy to tell what kind of fan a person is by their preference or go to.

When did Kool G Rap start rapping? I know he was 80's, but my point is that mf'er is highly respected and is still rapping. Feel like he should get more mainstream acknowledgment. He's so thorough. Mf'er is a rap machine.

Let Mash school you, who just learned who J Prince was in 2015. [laughing]

DJ DMD was known for '25 Lighters', but this is one of my favorite Summer Jams of all time. #HTown Smooth **** man :fire::fire::fire::fire:

Lil Keke, Yungstar, Trae, Z-RO (considered GOAT by many), Fat Pat, Tela, Big Moe, Flip. MIKE JONES, Paul Wall -- Loved all that ****...Scarface is legend, but I liked all the other stuff better.

UGK is on another planet, of course. Best rap group of all time, sorry 'Kast (and Tribe)

Never had much for Slim Thug or Chamilionaire tho.

Oh, and thumbs down to the Screw culture. It's cool, I get it....but Houston is slow enough as it is. I liked a few screwed songs, but none better than the originals. Never really got it, but whatever.

Mike Watts just released a screwed album of Mac Dre's Greatest Hits last week, btw.

****, how could I forget Big Mike? Nola born, but a career Houston rapper/sound. (Rap A Lot) His debut album was classic. 'Playa Playa', 'Havin Thangs', etc. :fire:

Maybe catsfagbgky can fill in the gaps with some Geto Boys knowledge or something. [eyeroll]

Late 90/early00 Def Jam

Dirty south taking over for the 99 and the 2000.

J Prince is the biological father of the Harrison Twins. TMFS. Bet BBdK didn't even know that and he fancies himself a rap and college basketball.

I don't think any era or region can compare to the early / mid-90's NY....at minimum from a lyrical perspective. Also love when people produce their own stuff, RZA, Havoc, etc...

The West Coast stuff I do enjoy but rarely go back to. The South which I would consider Memphis, ATL, Houston, gave us true trap production, which is why I love it so. Older 3-6 records make you feel like you're on a stick up run with them.

NYC was where the money was, the heart was, etc. You had to go through NYC.

Crazy how different things are today. I just keep comparing today's folks to the 90s guys and it ain't fair. Let Kendrick have those massive productions budgets and teams and Hollywood music videos. Gd....We will never get those days back because mf'ers like BBdK stealing music and ****.

LOL you probably think Coolio is old washed up terrible rapper. He and Warren G, Nate Dog, Naz, all older cats. Slick Rick, Dougie E Fresh, and wtf is wrong with Geto Boys ? Mind of a Lunatic, Damn it feels good to be a gangsta are classics for any era. Bushwick Bill, Raheem, Scareface, Willie D, yeah they are awful. They inspired touching Tupac, Jay Z, pretty much a who's who. Funny how ALL the big time rappers today like the older dudes ****, but you don't. Hum, maybe because as a rich white boy growing up in the country club scene, you listen to it, but do not hear it. Ok Malibu, I have smacked you around enough, go Google some more and get back at me.

Its the gd lyrics that make the artist, not the sound / beats. Hell Kendrick has a lot of terrible sounds, but he makes it. Same with Jay Z, his raps carry the beat, not the beats carrying him.

Touching Kool Moe D is better than a lot of the bs "I got this, I did that" rappers today. When the producer and dj are more important than the artist, that tells you all you need to know.

Ok, 3 posts in a row is enough.

Yeah, I hate Warren, Nate, and company. LOL. No bigger fan on the planet -- You don't even know who Foesum, Twinz or Mista Grimm are, please. Naz? I have all 74 of "Naz's" albums...Kurupt as well. [laughing][eyeroll] Again, Know your audience before you go in with your wack/forced smack...good grief. There isn't a bigger West Coast Head in Kentucky, maybe the Midwest. GTFO

The new guys respect the old guys, and they should -- but they don't listen to them. Just like I'm sure Steph Curry respects Bob Cousy, and then LOLs at his highlights behind closed doors.

If your goal is to sound super old and forced, well, I give you a 10/10.

I agree on the chopped up and screwed out nonsense. It must have something to do with the syrup or something who knows.

It's just an easy go to and rarely disappoints. Can't say the same about the rest of the genre or styles or whatever. Don't get me wrong NY/LA/ATL all have awesome stuff too just a lot more duds as well.

Only an idiot would think certain rappers don't have certain sounds. Christ! Of course lyrics can make a beat "nice" but a beat or sound can make lyrics irrelevant (see most of no limit)when they just aren't that good.

I was a student at WKU in 99 when they were just getting signed by Atlantic. I've blazed numerous times with Skinny Deville, Scales and Ron Clutch. Super cool dudes. I bought the Awnaw single out of the trunk of a car at the Junior Foods on Center Street.

Good times.

Which was my gd point. Great rappers do not need beats to prop them up. Their lyrics carry them. Jay Z can rap to a mother touching banjo playing and smoke most of these scrubs today. Now run along and try to go find some no name laying in a gutter somewhere so you can ride his dick and be the first to put on here like you "found" him or been into him since day 1, like you are a know all / tell all rap game expert.

Sometimes trying to be too cute with your choices actually takes your mask off you and reveals that you are really trying to hard, and maybe need to take a step back and reconsider. You and Malibu need to slow down, take a deep breath, listen to all of rap. I like older cats, and newer guys. I do not close my ears to any generation of rap, you are only cheating yourself by doing so.

Gurann touching tee you, Malibu wore the thick Krunk gold chains and airy thang. Maybe even bought a gd grill or two, lol. Brothers know fake, and you take that **** to the hood, you will get embarrassed.

Yea Jay can rap over a banjo but you ain't gonna listen to it.

They're songs, man. They all start with beats. Period. It sets the mood and determines which direction your raps go , how you flow, etc. It's the foundation of the song. I don't feel like this needs to be said. It's fundamental.

Also, if that last rap thread is around on the e-webs I would like to see it just so I can laugh at how wrong BBdK was. I don't remember much, but I know for a fact he was dead *** wrong with pretty much all his takes and predictions.

Riff Raff gonna be a professional wrestler now, fyi.

Definitely wasn't wrong on my Gibbs prediction. He's regressed, BIG TIME, and you know this to be true.

Those 'songs' you speak of, well, he doesn't put out many good ones.

Keeping with my 'pimp' theme, respect to the truest of them all, Suga Free. My favorite song from his best album, 'Street Gospel', which is an underrated classic out West.

This video is just incredible. [laughing] Funniest thing is, it's REALLY him, that's who he is. Surely Mash respects the pimpin?

Old Droog spit crazy hot old school like. Idk much about him, he kinda crept out the shadows, and it's obvious he's pretty seasoned. Need to do more homework and figure out his background...

P! And Fame from M.O.P. Had a project in the works before Sean died. That would have been pretty great.

I never hated the chopped / screwed stuff. Some of those tracks are great compliments to playlists.

The Lyrical Leviathan aka Mike Jones had some gems. The Hate Blood remix found it's way into a few of my playlists no lie, with such genius as....

"I got an Expedition, but I can't flip it....I can't flip the Expedition cuz I f***ed up the transmission"

or...

"I kicked a n__ out my car, he broke my Xbox controller"

Hit the goldmine

Y'all welcome.

Learned this from the Pimp C book: Most folks in Houston hated Mike Jones because he came along at the right time and made good money, more than he old heads did who basically just sold music in TX. So Mike Jones crowned himself King and acted like it. Mf'ers didn't appreciate that, but it is funny, and that's how the game goes. But you see he never gave credit where credit was due, never grew, and he doesn't rap anymore.

Meanwhile, Scarface put out a solid album this year. Paul Wall always showed upmost respect to his forefathers. He actually got out on by Pimp C because Paul was a huge fan and would write to him all the time in jail. Never knew the guy. Just wrote him bc he was a fan, and they developed a bond. Pimp set him up from prison and that was that. Slim Thug, Trae, etc...

Trae's story is the craziest story I've ever heard. He's literally banned on all radio airwaves. He is totally blackballed by the industry.

Never knew that about Mike Jones, but never was a fan either.

Trae was just not able to get out of his own way. I mean what he was really doing vs what he was blamed for was just about the stupidest thing I heard. But just like UGK for along time his music will get plays.

Probably because I wasn't talking to you , close your cock holster, read, then reply, k, thanks.
Act hood ? Nah , but I can tell you this, not trying to be hard, hood, thug, whatever whiteboy term you want to drum up , but I do have street cred from my early days. I mean i'm a grown up, father of 3, and a professional. But trust me, I have been in 'It". Real knows real, just like real knows fake.

Earlington huh BBDK, so did you go to HCC for high school ? Let me hit up some peeps I know from Earlington and see what you where about., Pettus, Scisney's, and Civil families. IF you are who you say you are, the will know you. Malibu if you want to save yourself, send me a message and just tell me, "dude I wasn't about that life, I just liked listening to rap." it is fine, just do not pop off to your elders just trying to partake in a thread. YOU started ruining this thread asking for "Mods ban". And I fully aware you are joking, but at the same time, being a bully and *** to people who are just throwing out favorite raps and artist. I get it GYERO is about that, just do not play that outside of GYERO.

Play on Playa, you do not have to be a ******* to say , "look at me, I am cool." Just discuss and disagree, but save the drama.

Have a good weekend.
