Rapid Reaction: Just got back from the Hump

After watching my faithfull Dawgs start up the new season tonight(yes i know its the 2nd game) it occurred to me that even though we have plenty of new faces getting valuable playing time, things are still the same. Here is was I took from the game:
1. WE CAN'T MAKE FREE THROWS
2. Kodi Augustus is the leader of the team (and i'm actually cool with that), several times during the game when we needed a clutch shot of the team needed picking up during a TO Kodi was there to lift the team
3. Riley Benock is still a waste of space (even though he made 1 miraculous shot in the first half)
4. Coach Stansbury still is running the patented stand still offense.
5. And suprisingly, I was really impressed with crowd support, by no means was it packed the Hump was relatively full(being generous) and at times it was pretty damn loud.
6. And last but not least, with all that being said, we still find a way for our talent to overcome the execution of the opposing team and pull a victory out our ***.

-Looks to be another hell of a season, Go Dawgs!

and I use that term loosely....that must have been one hell of an ankle injury...hasn't it taken about 2 years to heal?

The lack of talent this year compared to last year is pretty huge (at least until we get Dee and Sidney back). We're in for a rough out of conference season.

The guy tore up his knee back in March of this year and he is back and playing in November...perhaps that has something to do with his slow progress?

He is clearly not in ideal shape and it shows in his lack of vertical among other things, but he blew out his ankle then blew out his knee...i for one wouldnt expect him to be in perfect shape right away.

But your standards look to be much higher.

We also finished none of the ones I saw. Lewis blew two of them, and one of the new guys another. They were perfectly called, and executed not quite so well.

Once, tonight, he jumped about 6" in the air in a failed attempt to dunk, then spent the next 5 minutes trying to get his breath back. He makes Dontae Walker during his senior year look like usain bolt. His offseason conditioning must have consisted of 10 reps of reaching for the remote.

We aren't in for a rough OOC schedule. Teams left until Sidney comes back: Detroit, Troy, FAU, East Tennessee St, North Carolina A&T, Nicholls St, and Alabama St. We are at home for all of those games, and Appy St is probably the best team out of all the ones we play before Sidney comes back. We are playing terrible teams, and we have some very young inexperienced pieces playing.

That being said, I think we may win all of them. If Kodi can continue to do what he did tonight, Ravern stays consistent, and we have a 3rd option like a Bryant or a Steele that comes off the bench and gives us good points and gives good effort, we will win all of these. We need these young guys to grow up during these games, because we will need them down the road.

Coach called in the play. Then yelled to tell Lewis that he was out of position. Then waved for him to scoot over a little more. They ran the play. Lewis got wide open. Caught the pass and dunked into the back of the rim. Boing.

ETA: I really, really, really miss Charles Rhodes. Lewis is his twin physically, but he is lost on the court.

I like your enthusiasm. I believe Sidney is going to be a HUGEdisappointment--the guy has a horrible attitude and even worse stamina. But, I do think that Ravern and Kodi can keep us competitive until Dee gets back (at which point we should turn it around). We just look like a pretty weak team out there to me, at the moment.

I remember that ankle turning >90 degrees when he landed on it...most painfull thing I've seen since Tyrone Prothro's mishap. Hope Elgin can make acomplete comeback this year.</p>

Those are my hopes, too. Let's just do this thing one game at a time.

I know, what is this us stuff?

Hopefully the new guys will get time and with a little luck, the team wil get through the first nine. If they do, the second part of the season may get interesting.

What leads you to make that judgement now? Lets see the guy on the court first and see what the result. I'm not backing him up by no means, I've been indifferent about him honestly. Once I see him on the court, then I think we can pass judgement.

If there is one player on our squad that deserve's a little bit of slack it is Elgin Bailey. The kid definately does not have the most talent in the world but after all that he has been thru, he still has gone thru basically 2 years of Rehab to get back on the court. When he was healthy, he brought a physical, bruiser type presence to the court. He was laying on the court with his F'n foot pointed in the completely wrong direction, tore basically every ligament that you could tear and then once he gets back healthy from that, tears his knee up again. Keep typing away and criticize while he was busting his *** for two years of Rehab to get back on the court.

Granted, it was scrimmages, pick-up games, and the like, but the guy has no heart. I hope I'm wrong, but he just looks like a lazy, arrogant, out-of-shape slug every time I've seen him play.

is our Anthony Boone. We need to strap a couple of big *** knee braces to his legs and then he could flop, act like he is hurt, and someone like Benock could shoot free throws for him.

Charles Rhodes was lost, too, until at least about midway through his sophomore year. He didn't really pick it up until his junior year.

I have never figured out why people like him so much. I honestly think it's because he's a little on the heavy side, he sprints occasionally, and he smiles.

am more so now, just watching him try. But it still drags him down.

He and Lewis are going to set the all time record for missed dunks, before RS comes back!

Good one, you got me there. I bring up a reasonable point that directly explains his lack of conditioning and get ripped on. You forget a major injury to a starter and i am the one thats ripped on. Smart.
