Ravern doesn't sound like a guy that plans

and NEVER has a single MSU player under Stans left early for an NBA career. This is a consistent problem under Stans.

More troubling is the fact that he can't control the players that do play for him. Johnson is absolutely right. We need bigs. Augustus was absolutely right. The Rider loss was inexcusable. Bost was absolutely right. We needed to change defenses to stop Fortson. Coaches, especially Stans, make mistakes in games. It's a fact of life. But you won't usually hear college players criticizing their head coach to the media after a tough loss. Why do they do that? Because they don't respect Stans and they don't listen to him.

Just wait. You can call me a dumbass all you want but just wait. We will be in basketball purgatory next year just like this one except there will be no Sidney to play 18 games for us in 2012.

I'd like to think he tries to influence them to come back, but in the end, it's simply not his call.

I see him being just a little bit better version of Kodi- wants to show you his perimeter game more than he wants to mix it up inside. And I dont see us getting much out of Bailey- he wasnt very good before he got hurt- now, coming back from 2 major injuries????

We struggled inside this past season- and I just cant see Sidney being the factor inside that Jarvis was...we'll see

I expect Sidney = T. Russell

as give us an inside scoring threat. I'm not sure if he can do that. The knock on him is that he is a big guy that plays outside too much and doesn't use his body well. That's exactly what we don't need him to be. Maybe Bailey can fill the hole inside. We need a Vincent or Walters type inside presence.

if he's another Kodi, we are doomed. I don't think I'd compare him to Tyler Russell though. Sidney was projected as a Top 5 NBA draft pick when he was in 10th or 11th grade or something. He's coming back pissed off about this past season and I look for him to play that way all next year. If he's a bust, you may be right that Stans may be looking for a job in a couple of years. Gotta hope he's not.

We have Sidney for 2/3 of a season. He plays inside and drifts out constantly, according to many many sources over the years.
We have Augustus who plays on the perimeter almost exclusively.
We have Riek who is beyond injured STILL and is absurdly slow to recover from knee repair, much less have a grasp of our 'offense' or defense.
We have Lewis who is very athletic but couldnt handle a pass to save his life or finish a put back. He is a long term player, going off last season's play.
We have Osby, if you want to call him a big man seeing as how he doesnt at all play like one...at all.
We have Bailey who popped his ankle out, took a year off, then tore apart his knee. And even before all that he was hardly an impact player on either end.

So yeah, we could have used more bigs...if they are actually talented and able to contribute at a high level right away.

You've just described the problem with this generation of basketball players. They all think they need to be Lebron James or Kobe Bryant. No one wants to play back to the basket anymore. Even the 6-11 guys want to play on the perimeter and try to take it to the hole rather than posting up. Demarcus Cousins type players are few and far between, at least on the AAU circuit. We have the same issue. Reggie Buckner, Terrance Henry, and Murphy Holloway all think they are perimeter players and want to take players off the dribble. None of them have post moves. Even Cranston's, the unathletic waste of space, wanted to drift to the 3 point line and take jump shots.

I used to really enjoy college basketball, but the majority of it is such a basterdized version of the sport now that it's hard to watch. The Duke-Butler game was great to see, because both teams actually knew how to play the sport.

yes Western division banners look great.

but answer the question. Do they really matter when you are winning them and not making the NCAAT?

It should be no.

Its apparent to me players don't like RS. You could see it all over the court this year. By nearly everyone. I believe its the only reason Ravern is throwing his name in the hat. Yes he can't play defense but if you think we don't miss him then you don't know **** about basketball.

that's part of it. But I just don't get players leaving/transferring if they have significant playing time. I wonder how often that happens in other programs.

two years ago and read the pro scout reports from two years ago and decided to offer him a scholly. Nevermind the fact that he destroyed his knees. Nevermind the fact that no one else wanted him. The guy can BARELY jog. He has absolutely no future and SHOULD never average more than 4 minutes a game for us. I'm afraid that he may play more because we will have no one else. What a scary thought.
I was always told by people on the team that Wesley Morgan's scholly was basically the same situation. Somebody that may not be good enough for the SEC, but could use the leg up, why not use a scholly and hope that you can turn them into something serviceable.

Worse case scenario you end up giving somebodyfrom a disadvantaged background a shot at a college degree.

Except that Riek had already accepted a scholarship from Cincy. If it was for charity and trying to give a guy a chance, he already had a program offering him a free ride and a college degree. Itd be pretty dumb togive a guy a basketball athletic scholarship(when so few are avail) just so they have a chance in life post basketball when another school has alreadyoffered him thatsame chanceand he has already accepted that chance from them.

1) There has been a coaching change
2) They aren't getting the playing time that they want
3) The program is in bad shape and they want to go to a winner.

It's an epidemic at State. And the only thing that one can draw from it is that the players don't respect Rick for whatever reason.

and failed..... but whether you know it or not, being able to pump fake, take two hard dribbles and pull up for (and make) a mid-range jumpshot is VERY tough and very few guys can do it consistently.

because we are not an elite school Coach Stansbury takes alot of chances on very talented players with some questionable attitudes and some potential players that may or may not pan out. From the looks of the post from a couple of weeks ago on the transfers within the SEC other schools are having the same problem. Florida has had several starters and players with a lot of playing transfer to include one of their better guards this year.

I could have sworn I read they were testing the NBA waters. Stupid me.

As for others who have transferred in the past, yes, it happens all over the country. It's not a Stansbury problem. It is what it is for today's college basketball generation. I believe someone posted not too long ago that we were 7th in the SEC in basketball transfers. You only notice it because you follow MState more closely. Keep trying though. One day you'll be right on something.

...head and assistant coaches for as long as we have and has starters/people getting significant minutes leaving as often as we have. Again, if somebody leaves because they aren't getting enough playing time or there is a coaching change, that's one thing. We have starters and people getting significant minutes jump ship every other year. It's beyond ridiculous.

And let me let you in on a little secret. Ravern is not getting drafted. Bost probably isn't either. And so if one or both of them leave school and go play European ball, that equals a transfer. I don't hold Gordon against Stansbury. He had a legitimate chance at getting drafted. These guys don't.

And if they are just testing the waters, that's fine. What started this thread was Ravern's comments that seem to indicate that he is done.

But Stans loves the damn three ball, so he signs more guards... Now Adams is gone to Duke and O'bryant will go out of state, so no Big men in 2011 class for Stans. We are Mississippi State.

of the Americans.

If he can't/won't play defense, he'll findhimselfplaying on a middle-eastern,far-eastern, or South American team. (He can call Teddy Dupay for info on the South American teams).

get along and that is the reason why. Again, he can take his no-defense, insubordinate *** on to Italy or Russia or wherever the 17 he's gonna go. If this is indeed what happens, then I'd say Stans most certainly DOES have control of his team. Ravern looked like a complete *** out there at times last season. You just don't try to show up the coach like he did. Ever.
I agree with you. Bet he would not see the floor at Butler.
