Doing my rounds of message board scouring this morning, and came across this: http://www.secfanatics.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69505

Basically, someone asked him if he was coming back next year, and his response was "naw, i'm done wit state."

By the time I was able to look for myself, his facebook appeared to be missing (deleted?). Now it appears to be back. That comment is not there (anymore?) but there's at least one person that's posting on his wall that he's gone.

Thoughts?

If Ravern is gone, the two signees, Bryant and Steele need to take advantage or this opportunity to find some PT. Hopefully they can both contribute to our team this fall.

Matt Stevens said on the radio last week that Ravern has told him that he does not have to have a first round guarantee to determine whether he stays or withdraws from the draft. He said that his personal opinion was that Ravern was most likely not coming back.

So Osby was so annoyed with the situation/team/system that he most likely knew the one player ahead of him at the SF spot would be gone and yet he STILL requested to transfer.

Man, that is some serious annoyance with the situation/team/system.
Knowing the SF spot is basically yours to lose and STILL feeling like leaving is the best answer...crazy.

is a joke but does the guy seriously think he's NBA quality? He has no game off the dribble, rarely creates his own shot even against guards 3 inches shorter than him and his lack of being a defender is well documented. Now, if Bost is on the same boat, I'm worried but losing Ravern isn'tthe end of theworld.

but where does he think he's going to go? No school is going to take a transfer with only one year of eligibility left, talk of the NBA is laughable, and while I guess Europe is an option, the only MSU bulldogs in Europe that I can think of(Roberts, Austin, Rhodes, Gordon) are light-years ahead of him in terms of talent.

Whatever the case, it has to really make you wonder when you have kids like this essentially saying that they'd rather throw their entire careers in the tank than continue playing for MSU.

You must nothave watched the player i saw this year. Hedeveloped an excellent midrange game. He was able to take a couple dripplesfrom the perimeter and hit a shot from theFT line or elbow on a consistent basis.

Hell, he was basically the only player on ourteam that could do this. Stewart was able to do it too, but didnt do it often.

Do you realize how rare a midrange game is these days?

Sure, he got lost on D, could get screenedeven by someone in a wheelchair, and playedsoft defense. And yeah his handle on the ball still isnt above avg.
But his offense has developed very well and he has become a muchmore diverse scorer, hardly just a spot up shooter. He is a deer in the fast break too.

...these guys have a tremendous opportunity to get in here and get some early PT before they, too, depart early.

Of starters wanting to leave- but there is no coaching problem so let's just extend his 17'ing contract

look for the starting lineup to be:
C- Sidney
PF- Augustus
SF- Turner
SG- Bryant
PG- Bost

The problem is that our depth continues to deteriate.

if there is any decent 17'ing way Bost can find to get out of Starkville, he won't be back next year. If he is back, then it means he just couldnt find any decent option to leave

I imagine Shaun Smith and him will compete for the starting SG position and probably be somewhat on level ground with one another.

Smith and Bailey ever completely recover from their respective injuries. I hate it because both could have contributed.

"let me try to be a cool prick and deflect from the real problem because if I acknowledge we have a problem, then that means Coach has been right about Stansbury for a very long time"

Coach34, will you please just ST17U? Have you ever talked to these players personally? Do you know the stupidity level of Ravern Johnson? I guess we should fault Stans for not talking sense into a moron... but beyond that... let's open the roster and see what some new guys can do.<div>
</div><div>I don't know who's more tired... you of Stans or me of you/Extreme being tired of Stans. We got it, holmes. Relax. Do something else. And please ST17U.</div>

Yes, i've coached many Delta kids

"I guess we should fault Stans for not talking sense into a moron"

yep, or maybe Stansbury could run a decent offensive system and learn how to substitute like a normal coach

"let's open the roster and see what some new guys can do"

Since we have starters leave constantly, we pretty much do that every year, but thank you Jay Bilas for that amazing suggestion

Brian Johnson had like 3 knee operations before coming to MSU, wasnt anywhere near what he was as a HS player(he was on a US team, the only player not to be a Senior in HS at the time), and did barely anything at MSU.

John Riek had a knee operation before coming to MSU, hasnt been anywhere near what he was as a HS/prep player(he was at one time the top projected pick in the draft and dominated Oden at a summer camp), and he barely did anything at MSU this season.

Shaun Smith had a couple of hip operations before coming to MSU(i think both were before, either way not important), and was so unprepared to play as a result that he couldnt take the court as a freshman, and is being talked about as a player who never will be anything close to the athlete that he was before his hip issues.

Man, Stans surehas broughtin some hobbled talent as of late, hoping they rehab and get back to where they once were.

Secondly, Ravern Johnson needs to grow up.That dude is fooling himself thinking he's ready for Europe, much less the league. I thought he would've matured by now, but he doesn't seem to have an ounce of leadership in his body.<div>
</div><div>If he stays, great. If he leaves, whatever. We'd miss his points, sure, but his departure would probably be a boost for team chemistry and defense. If I had to pick between Osby and Ravern, I'd take Osby. His departure bothers me more than someone who cries when he gets coached.</div>

I have been hearing since around February that Ravern was probably going to go to Europe because he wanted out. Him declaring for the draft is basically seeing if he gets lucky and gets drafted if not he will be more than happy to go to Europe.

Won't miss him a bit in my book. Say what you want about his offense. I would have given all his minutes to either Turner or Osby. Both played harder than Ravern.

Thought that we played Kentucky better the time when he was out. Did anyone readOsby's comments in the Starkville Daily? Sorry for no link, but he had a few gems in there: "didn't appreciate the four out one in offense" "Nothing against the coaches, but the strategy didn't work to showcase his game.""had much love for Coach Kirby" "Thought he could take smaller men guarding him but was never given the option" etc.... sorry if I don't get those exactly right, but it screams what we have been discussing right here and pointing out OVER and OVER.

Stans put us over a barrel with the Clemson routine and our lack of an AD. I wish he would exhibit an ounce of that much strategy on the basketball court. Maybe we could fire him and hire Sexton as a coach? Damnit.

if the NBA had 4 rounds. he's too thin, his defense sucks, and he's too lazy to follow up a shot or rebound. yes he can shoot, but that's about it. I don't think he'll be back, but the NBA is NOT in his future. If he came back, added 20 lbs, and could average 5-6 RB and around 2 steals per game, he MAY work his way into the 2nd round.

bost has said nothing of the sort. i think he's actually smart and just wants some nba scouts to tell him what parts of his game to work on for the upcoming year. bost will be back, ravern and osby are gone.

the 2 cornerstone players of our team for next year will evidently be Kodi Augustus and Renardo Sidney. Wonder what kind of odds I could have gotten on that 6 months ago?
