good CL article today on his career and lack of support to make HOF. Every time we played them during his career I always arrived early just to watch him warm up. Noone will ever punt like that guy. He was way ahead of his time.

The man's a good bit older than me and I never got to watch him play but he's a good friend of mine. Great, great guy. Loves golf and beer. I'll be seeing him this Thursday in a meeting so I'll get his opinion of this.

Though I like Ray Guy, you do realize there is another guy with more punts and a better average who also is not in the HOF.

I think Morestead will have a better career than Guy by the time he retires.

ETA: want to point out as pat says, no one has had more influence in punting than Guy, but strictly based on punting, Morestead.

Guy could have averaged 50 yards per punt if he'd wanted to. He introduced the concepts of hang time and directional punting to football.

I do think he belongs in the Hall of Fame

And I think it is absurd that the writers refuse to vote for kickers and punters.

Bayless had an article on the front page of espn.com about how kicking is gimmicky and should be taken out, citing that non-football players sometimes determine the winner of games. Worst article I've ever read. Kicking is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Yeah, but they have better equipment now .... **

Ray Guy definitely should be in the HoF.

I have very little respect for Bayless

He's basically a sensationalist more than a sportswriter. It's pretty rare that he actually has a good point and I'm not sure that even he agrees with half of the things he says.
