My how times have changed. As a kid in the 60's and going into the late 70's I wouldn't have missed a single pitch of any game and been hoping for a 7 game series. But until I read this thread title, I had absolutely no idea who was in the playoffs, had not even thought about it being that time of year.

You’ve just gotten old. Face it with inner anger…..and outward dignity.

I don’t see how you guys have time to watch MLB. Games take forever and they play a million of them. I love going to baseball games, but the seasons themselves just ask too much. College baseball is much more doable since the games of consequence are on the weekends.

Brewers organization is also saying Brandon Woodruff may be able to come back and do some pitching in at least a relief role in the WS.
I had to look it up to see for myself. Couldn't believe there are actual rumors of that happening. Hoping it comes to fruition. Good for him.

You know now I kind of do like my granddad did with the Cardinals. He was a big Cardinals fan, but he hardly ever saw them on TV until later in life, but he would just read about everything in the paper every day and knew everything about them. But now instead of reading the paper, I just follow them on social media and I do from time to time if I have time watch a game on TV as well.

NIL, I mean free agency, kind of like what we have with NIL today. Players started playing a year or two and were gone instead of playing a career with a team like they typically did for years and at worst another year or two at the end of their career with another team. Viewership has steadily declined in the last 50 years, its not just me.

I've always thought 162 games was too much. After the strike and Roid Era, I thought we missed a valuable chance to reinvent a little bit, since we had essentially lost the statistical element of it that had been present for so long.

MLB is good inventory for TV during the summer though, and it's something for people to do. I really think they should think about changing up the postseason as well. It needs to be more geared toward excitement and winning, rather than a slog over a long period of time. Take what is working from the tournament format.

Back in the late 80s/early 90s you could have never convinced me of what would come later. It's like this ideal I'd always had was burst during the strike. Kinda what's happened with college sports too.

I was always in love with the history of baseball. McGwire and Sosa trying to break HR record. Cal Ripken jr being the iron man. The curse of the babe. The cubs being lovable losers. It doesn’t feel like there is any of that left.

Its already happened to me w/ college football as well. My dad and I have had season tickets since the mid 80's. We gave them up two seasons ago and tailgate only now. I still have baseball season tickets but if the football parking price continues going up every season and the baseball prices do the same I'll have no issue at all sitting at home inviting friends to come over and we'll do the same thing at home that we do on campus which is eat, drink, and be merry and watch Bulldog sports, but for free............

If you asked someone from the 60s and 70s if they liked baseball during the 80s and 90s they would probably give the same answer you just said. The game changes and people crave nostalgia

They make it freaking impossible to follow a team because of the PPV nature of the NFL Sunday Ticket/MLB whatever. Growing up the Cubs/Sox were always on WGN and the Braves were always on TBS. Multiple times a week. You could always follow them or if you were a Giants fan or whatever you could watch them play their series with those two as well as espn games. Also, baseball tonight didn't freaking blow. If you aren't willing to pay $120 plus to buy the package you just have to get lucky when someone you want to watch is on Sunday night baseball.

Well, I am a Dodgers fan, and while I'm sad my team didn't make it all the way, I am really looking forward to this Series. It promises to be a really good one. Good pitching, good defense, lots of contact hitters, ability to hit long balls AND manufacture runs.

Not a brewers fan...but I fly into Milwaukee once a month for work. Its a great mid-size city and they're rabid sports fans up there. Throw in that I can fly home with a case of spotted cow after every visit and I'm on the bandwagon. Wisconsin and Alaska are the two heaviest drinking states I've ever spent time in and nothing goes better with baseball than beer.

Same here Peeper. Remember well rushing to my grand parents after school hoping to catch the end of a WS game, which was usually the Yankees. There were no night games then, just afternoon. My GF was a big baseball fan and listened to the Cards on radio and at times I would be there with him. Great times.

With you on the 162....it's a little much but you need a good volume to eliminate luck. Maybe cut a month off.

MLB games are lightning fast today compared to the past. I like the pitch clock and some of the other rules that were added to speed it up. In fact, people going to games are now getting a little pissed because they cut off beer in the 7th and that can be as quick as an hour and a half. Better pre-game or drink quick.

I too probably like college baseball more but those games take way longer to play.

Also, if you are from an MLB city or live in one it seems like it's a bigger deal. That's one thing I noticed when I moved to DFW and it actually brought me back to following MLB.

Brandon Woodruff made the Brewers roster. Good for him! Hopefully he can throw a couple of innings and get a ring.
