Re: our bowl scenario, is there any chance that this can happen?

Neal McCready (I know) says that there is a chance that Vandy goes to the Gator, Ole Miss to Nashville and MSU to Birmingham or Memphis. That would be horrible. Is there any chance that we get sent to Legion field or Memphis? I figured worst case scenario would be Music City.

Zero chance. You can only jump a team with one more loss than you. Worst case scenario is the MCB.

I don't know where people keep coming up with this.

As best i can tell from google is the only bowl that has that restriction is the Capital One bowl. The rest of the bowls have no such restrictions as far as anything i have been able to find.

you are right . the actual rule is a myth

but each bowl "consults" with the SEC headquarters in Birmingham before invitations are presented and you rarely see a scenario playing out where a 6-6 team jumps anyone. I could see a 7-5 team maybe jumping an 8-4 team but I have never seen a 6-6 team jump anyone in the bowl pecking order. I remember 2 years ago there was talk that we might get jumped by a 6-6 Tennessee team and Tennessee would go Gator and play MIchigan-but it didnt happen.

I do think we will have a hard time selling tickets this year because we are most likely going either Jacksonville or Nashville and we have been to both bowls the past 2 years. That and the fact that we lost 4 out of our last 5 and dont have alot of momentum right now

I wouldn't mind the Music City or BBVA Compass just from a logistical perspective. I'd probably go to either of those. Jacksonville is just a little far for me to go back to again.

Vandy is the wildcard in all of this.

Vandy would be a disaster for the MCB, so it would be reasonable that Vandy goes to Gator. Then that leave State and OM for the MCB and LB. Seems like there would be the potential that the OM goes to MCB to avoid having State two years in a row. Of course, all of this is pure conjecture. All the bowls could just pick in the order every thinks and that would be the end of it.

They're coming up with it because the SEC did actually put that rule in after the 1999 or 2000 season when a 6-6 Bama team jumped over an 8-4 team for a bowl spot. They don't realize the SEC did away with that rule a couple of years ago when the current system started. You are correct that this rule ONLY applies to the Cap One Bowl, and even then ONLY in the case of the SEC title game loser.

I thought there was a rule, added after Bama went to the Indy Bowl

And we stayed home, with a better record and the head to head victory. Maybe that's just about being left out, but there was some SEC rule change about bowl pecking order, to avoid bowls picking teams with worse records at the expense of a team with a better record.

The Gator picks before the Music City/Liberty and they don't "consult with the SEC office" like those 2 bowls do, so I doubt whether or not Vandy would be a disaster for the MCB would have any effect on who the Gator takes. I would guess you will wind up in the MCB either way the MSU/Vandy will go to the Gator/Liberty, probably MSU to Gator and Vandy to Liberty.

before a couple years ago there was a rule that 6-6 teams could not jump teams with a winning record. it is no longer a rule.

i think that having been to the Gator and MCB very recently, they will be very tempted to pass on us. we could very well be a travel and ratings disaster (we have a slew of blowouts this year to go with our limited typical ratings draw) for either of those bowls.

a 6-6 Ole Miss team that we beat would be one thing, but after they trounced us it will probably happen.

Yeah, I don't see the Gator taking Vandy considering how much trouble they have filling their own stadium and how terribly they travel.

The Liberty Bowl does not get an sec team this year. Supposedly, they and Birmingham alternate pick priorities. There are not enough sec teams to fill the slots and so the last sec team will automatically play in Bham this year. The gator will choose between state and vandy and should pick state. Vandy will stay home in Nashville, an om will be in Birmingham. No sec teams in the liberty or Indy bowls.

Wrong. Birmingham is the bowl that will get the shaft. They pick 9th and last. By contract, since they don't get an SEC team, they will take a Subet team. The Liberty and Music City work with the SEC office to split the 7/8 (and last) picks. B'ham and Liberty shared the last spot a few years ago, but the Liberty moved up last year.

No, Liberty/bham share a pick, and Liberty picked first last year

So this year Bham gets it, and the Liberty gets no SEC team, unless some deal is worked out. It's outlined in both the CA and CL.

Even when the rule was in place, I think it only applied to keep winning teams at home. May be wrong, but I think a 6-6 team could be picked ahead of the 7-5 team as long as the 7-5 team made it to a bowl. But if it would result in the 7-5 not making a bowl, the 6-6 team could'nt be picked.

This is from the Commercial Appeal this morning....

While the Bulldogs (8-4 overall, 4-4 SEC West) still have a couple of bowl options, Ole Miss' only option appears to be the Jan. 5 BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham. That bowl and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl share the pick that would go to the Rebels, but by contract the Compass Bowl gets the selection this year because the Liberty Bowl had first choice last season when it selected Vanderbilt.
