RE: Scott Samsel/OB post...check out the Damien Robinson

Some of yall act as if this isn't an issue. You could care less because you think it only affects OM. Well thats not the case. OM & MSU will always be on the outside looking in as long as Samsel is there. There are HS coaches in MS that try to influence their players to OM & MSU. I don't deny that, but Samsel has taken it to a whole new level. And it's a totally different animal when he is steering them out of state. This is an issue that OM & MSU need to be united on. I assure you this wouldn't be tolerated in Alabama or LSU. It's hard enough to keep players in MS without this kind of crap.

Read this and discuss...

http://mississippi.scout.com/a.z?s=177&p=2&c=862961

Has Damien spotted any coaches at his practices so far?

"My coach handles all of that. I really do not know. I did see a coach from Ole Miss at school the other day, and I saw a coach from Tennessee, I believe, there too."

"Coach Samsel talks to all of the coaches. I have never talked to anybody on the phone, but I did talk to the Alabama coaches went I went down there. Naturally, we talked while I was on my visit."

Where all has Damien visited this Spring?

"The only campus I have been to is Alabama and that is it."

Was this Robinson's first time to see the Alabama campus?

"No, I have been there three times overall. I went down there for a camp last summer and a game in the fall and Jr Day this spring."

What stood out about the Tide?

"Well, I just like the overall team. They play together as a team, just like any other team."

What did the Alabama coaches say to Robinson while on the visit?

"I talked to their OL coach and Coach Saban. I can not remember the OL coach's name, but they told me I had a good opportunity to play early and play for a championship team."

Which colleges now have an offer on the table for Damien?

"My head coach has all of that information. He handles everything with my recruitment, but I can tell you that Oklahoma was my latest offer."

Which schools have caught Damien's eye up to this point?

"I do not know. I have not narrowed it down yet. I am going to sit down with my head coach after my senior season and go over that kind of stuff."

Where all will Damien camp at this summer?

"My head coach schedules all of that stuff. He makes all that out, and we have not gone over any of that yet."

Which colleges has he camped at in the past?

"Last year I went to LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. The year before I went to Ole Miss' OL camp and MSU's Jr Day."

What is going on with the Mississippi schools, Ole Miss and MSU?

"I do not know too much about the Mississippi schools. I guess I will learn more about them on my visits. They are both recruiting me pretty good, I just have not had a chance to talk to them yet."

Samsel is taking steering players to a whole new level. I can understand if someone would like to maybe see their players go to a certain school but forcibly taking over the guys recruitment and basically taking all the decisions away from him and not letting him go out there and make that determination himself is ridiculous.

RE: Scott Samsel/OB post...check out the Damien Robinson

1. As head coach, my allegiance is to my players, not to any university.

2. Film is available upon the request of any university. I send film all over the country in most cases before it is requested.

3. In 25 years, I have never prevented any university from recruiting any of my players. All coaches and/or representatives of each university are expected to demonstrate integrity and honesty in dealing with OBHS' administration, faculty, coaches, staff, athletes, parents and community.

4. All contact with my players goes through me and OBHS. Phone numbers and addresses will not be given out until a written offer from the university is in my possession, unless a parent approves otherwise.

5. The recruiting process will be stopped with any given university at any given time upon the request of the player and/or parent.

6. All official and unofficial visits to any university are to be set up through me.

7. All school visits are to be set up through me. This helps me organize visits so that coaches are not wasting their time waiting on another coach to finish his visit. If you just pop in, that's fine. Just be prepared not to be offended if something else is going on.

8. All home visits are to be preceded at the very least by a phone call to me. 99 percent of the coaches I have dealt with in the past have come by to see me first, just as a courtesy. I will attend the home visit only at the player's and parent's request.

9. 100 percent compliance to all NCAA rules and regulations is expected.

10. We appreciate every opportunity that any university offers our athletes. With that being said, it is understood it is every university's privilege to offer our athletes or not. In turn, our athletes are not obligated to attend any particular university and their right to choose will be respected.

11. I will hold the university responsible for any attempts by school representatives, coaches, boosters, fans, etc., to undermine the policies listed above. Such actions will effect future relations.

about Samsel's usurpation? *

* This post assumes that there is a babydaddy in the picture. Otherwise, it seems obvious that Samsel would be serving in the role of in loco parentis.

RE: Scott Samsel/OB post...check out the Damien Robinson

Any time a coach decides to drive an extra 8 hours to go to a spring game in tuscaloosa and decides to skip the two spring games within 2 hours of Olive Branch, there is a problem.

Can you imagine a coach at Catholic High in LA taking a Top 50 national recruit and driving over to AU for a the spring game and skipping the LSU game. Im not sure he would have a job when he got back.

The funny part about all of this, I have absolutely no doubt that the coaching staff wanted this story out there, and wants all the attention they can get on Samsel.

At least its something fun to talk about during the summer.

By the way, not cool with the cut and paste.

RE: Scott Samsel/OB post...check out the Damien Robinson

With two SEC schools in his home state, he keeps taking his teams to camps in Alabama. If Robinson has been to Bama's campus three times and its 4 hours away, and only Ole Miss campus once and it is 45 minutes away, its confusing.

Same goes for MSU, Im not sure how many times he has been to MSU, but I doubt it is more than once.

The bottom line for me is that I have no doubt that Robinson will commit to Bama at some point, and I doubt MSU or Ole Miss will have a shot. Same thing happened with Woodson last year.

A player from a local high school should occasionaly have a player sign out of state (Joe McKnight) not every year that players from that school shun the instate schools.

RE: Scott Samsel/OB post...check out the Damien Robinson

He supposedly got upset with OM when he was the coach at Lafayette. He thought Cut should have recruited Wesley Smith (signed w/Memphis) and Jeff Dukes (signed with NWCC before transferring to Bama) harder. Supposedly that started the rift with OM.

I have a different conspiracy theory...It has been rumored that he wants a college coaching job and thinks catering to Bama can parlay into this position. This makes me wonder if he has already tried to influence a coach at OM or MSU to hire him and is pissed because it didn't happen. Who knows?

What I do know is that your coaches and our coaches are behind the eightball. Meanwhile his kids camp in Tuscaloosa, 7 on 7 in Tuscaloosa, visit Tuscaloosa officially/unofficially, and go to games there. Meanwhile, OM & MSU can't even call his kids.

Actually, he's apparently an Ole Miss alum, which makes it all the more confusing.

I think this interview was done by Yancy specifically to outline how much control Samsel has on the recruitment of his players and then to further outline how much Samsel exposes his players to Alabama in comparison to Ole Miss and MSU.

I'm hoping that something is done this summer with Samsel, and a new coach is in place this fall. This should never happen in state.

I'll bet we don't see another interview with an OB kid by an OM (and possibly MSU) recruiting site from here forward.

On another note...if you pay attention:

Samsel sends his marignal kids to our camps and on visits, but the big names don't make it.

He also has no problem send his underclassmen to our instructional camps, but once it is time for recruiting to heat up, you don't see them again.

I'm sure that he thinks little ole MSU & OM should recruit his mariginal recruits, but have no business playing with the big boys with his better recruits.

I went on a tirade about mississippi h.s. coaches steering top players out of state. Of course, the MSU fan's typical mindset is one of the main reasons that we don't win in football. If you think that they would put up with coaches steering players out of state in alabama, louisiana, or arkansas, you are delusional. This samsel cat needs to go coach in alabama. He draws a check from the state of Mississippi and he needs to remember that. But of course the rebels are over here hoping to get us on their side so that they can place one of their mole's in his position so that players can be steered to them. That is the difference b/t olemiss and state, their fanbase as a whole will do what it takes and we won't.

You are right. I want MSU fans to be mad.

There are certain issues where we should work together. You obviously get it. Samsel is doing neither of us any justice.

People like BulldogBacker (and I don't have to describe what a moron he is) say it's no big deal. They think this is only an OM issue because OB is closer to Oxford and we are the main ones bitching. He is so <17>ing giddy that OM is getting shafted that he doesn't notice the big ***** that Samsel has shoved up his own ***.

However, this guy isn't JUST steering them from OM. He is sterring them out of state for the most part unless they are a middle of the road recruit without a lot of offers.

Not saying I wouldn't mind having a coach steer players our way, but honestly, in this case, all I want is for a coach to be in place at OBHS that gives us a fair shot.

I would like to think that if we sell ourselves well enough, we should be able to win over a lot of recruits that live within an hour radius of the campus without having to have a coach steer them our way. You'll never get them all, but I would like us to have a fair shot at them.

He is sort of acting like a realtor selling a hot piece of property. As long as he is fair, he is the most qualified person to be dealing with the university officials. I could see parents getting overwhelmed pretty easily by the recruiting process. As long as he is not favoring one university over another and taking direction from the parents this seems pretty reasonable. I think it is very early in the process for HS juniors to be bombarded by college coaches and don't mind the HS coach keeping the whores away from his players during their junior year. There was a good article a couple of weeks ago in the NY times about Shane Battier. One of the things he did during his recruiting process was present ground rules to recruiters. Ricky P broke the rules and was eliminated. Now if he is getting some sort of compensation from the bammers then that's a big problem.

And the only people that care about this issue are people trying to gain internet cred on 6pack and OM fans. State has not pulled a decent football recruit out of NWMS or Memphis (exception being Hernando) in years....if ever. So, if State can not have them, and there is no indicatation we would otherwise, I say let Bama have them and <17> OM.

I hope this coach gets a transcript of Fancy's interview, now that you have made it even more available, and bands his *** too.

Man, I could give a **** less about "internet cred". I've been posting here for 3 years longer than you, since the beginning in 2003. I don't have anything to prove. Most of the times reasonable posters agree or disagree with me. Sometimes posters like yourself can't carry on an intelligent conversation due to my affiliation.

Does KJ Wright not exist in your bizarro eggbowl.com world?

"band" Fancy's ***. Didn't I already say that would probably happen?

Come on dude, lay off off the eggbowl.com **** and discuss this normally like everyone else.

If you would quit being a hard head and look at the big picture and what people are telling you, you could see the forest.

Your staff made inroads with KJ Wright in 2005 when they where recruiting Walker/Summers. I can show you the articles. And who knows how well you could have recruited OB if you had not had Croom? I'm sure you will start caring if you find out they have stonewalled Mullen on Damien Robinson. I have seen several post here discussing Robinson. At this point, that is a pipe dream. Samsel has Robinson sewed up to Bama. You should care.

KJ Wright (no offense, because I think he is a great player and would love to have him...I thought he was their best player in HS against South Panola)) was not a bigtime recruit. Samsel doesn't mind them going to OM or MSU if they don't have Bama, UT, LSU offers. Wright only visted MSU & South Carolina.
