1. I don’t know how many lines there were in the announcement by the
Southeastern Conference that the league’s coaches voted Steve Spurrier
of South Carolina the SEC Coach of the Year. But if you read between
them, you can see how the coaches feel about Auburn and the Cam Newton
affair. The Tigers and the Gamecocks each were picked to finish third in
their respective SEC divisions. Chizik went 13-0 and will play for the
BCS national championship, Spurrier went 9-4.

2. At the Intercollegiate Athletic Forum in New York on Wednesday,
Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said that the league made a misstep when
it formed in 1996 and didn’t find a way to continue the
Oklahoma-Nebraska rivalry on an annual basis. He added that Colorado,
despite its historical ties to the Big Eight, has greater economic ties
to the Pac-12 than it ever did to the Big 12’s footprint.

3. It’s logical to assume that Florida athletic director Jeremy
Foley would look to replace Urban Meyer with his former offensive
coordinator, Dan Mullen, who led Mississippi State to an 8-4 record and a
Gator Bowl bid in his second season in Starkville. Miami also has been
interested in Mullen. From what I hear, however, Mullen and his family
like Starkville and aren’t in a hurry to leave. Mississippi State
athletic director Scott Stricklin has his wallet open. The guess is
Mullen gets a raise and stays.

..he has inside info that a big boy football coach is about to be offered and likely hired by UF. Says it'll be a huge surprise. The only hint he will give is "stab".

When Cowherd goes out on a limb and says he has a source... he has a source.

It was said here earlier... Spurrier coached at UF for 10 years and won 1 NC. Meyer has been there 6 and has won 2. The bar is set EXTREMELY high at Florida.
Let's look at history and facts here. If Mullen comes in here and consistently wins 7-9 games a year and keeps us in the bowls each season the fanbase is happy. If he does that at Florida they're looking to fire him after a couple of years. Especially if he doesn't bring home another NC.

Now am I saying that Mullen doesn't think he can win a NC here? No, I'm saying that the expectations for it aren't going to be weighing on him or his family every season. If we make it back to the SECCG or win it and make it to the Sugar, we'll build a statue in his honor and you'll find a lot of newborns named Dan popping up.

That guy can coach and I would much rather face him every four years or so then to face him every year. They were real close to winning the West and when Mallet leaves their back up seemed to be just as good.

out of the basement you live in. If Florida comes calling with 3 mil a year with a boatload of talent already on the team, do you really think Dan would stay because of a statue and newborns? Or do you think the sound of Dan Mullen, national championship coach, sounds better? Let's be a little realistic. We are blinded by the fact that we all have ties to State. Dan has ties for not even 2 years. Sure we gave him an opportunity. The opportunity to be the lowest paid coach in the SEC and under the national DI average for that matter.
Next time you type something, please say it out load first and if it sounds stupid, than please don't type it.

Agree with you that we are all looking through maroon colored glasses. Dan hasn't got the time invested in the program that we have eh?
Also agree that he's not being paid what he's worth... think I pointed that out in an earlier post.

I'm not saying he wouldn't have a higher echelon of talent or a higher paycheck at UF. Sure they would be a much shorter route to a NC than State.
What I'm saying is that it's obvious from his statements that he's not all about money. He can methodically build a contender program here and the fanbase will continue to honor him in the process. If he flies into UF tomorrow, they won't just be handing him a paycheck but piling on expectations as well.
Can he deliver? Sure... he's the man. At UF it's expected. Here it's worthy of Sainthood.

So you tell me what the bigger accomplishment would be towards a legacy. Take a mediocre program and turn it into a competitive contender or take an established program and try to maintain expectations. There's a reason Urban left Florida. Wouldn't want the same fate to happen to Dan there.
