You:
1. QB that can run and make plays
2. Able to make the deep throw to keep the defense honest.
Me
1. QB that can read the defense and distribute the ball quickly to make the field wide.
2. QB that can recognize when defense covers tight and can run (but not primarily**)
See here is the difference in you and I and where I dont think you understand Mullen. If what you are saying is true, Mullen would have played Relf ALL SEASON in front of Lee. His ability to run the ball was light years better than Lee and his ability to throw long was, well just as bad, but really no worse as it came out.
What you are going to have to change is that Mullen values qb intelligence and the ability to get the ball to the playmakers besides himself. Lee might not have been good, but he represented a better choice in that regard to Relf.
I guess you can be proven right in all this if Relf has a moment of clarity and is able to absorb the enormity of what the qb must do in the spread because at the end of the day, if he has the mind to read a defense and the ability to deliver a pass nearly as good as Russell, then his ability to run will be the deciding factor. I just dont think Relf has done the first two, so I dont think he will hold the 1st spot very long, if at all, in the spring or fall.

***adding one more thing......Relf must improve in my idea as well. If he doesnt, he's ONLYa running threat undercenter and not much of a challenge to figure out. He gets better at passing, even if just a bit better, and he throws some question marks asto whether in shortyardage situations, he will throw or run.In a sustained drive that winds up 2nd or 3rd and long, he'll be a liabilty (with all due respect tothe TD he threw to Bumphis in the egg bowl)
