I can't get interested in freestyle. The refs overseas and the competitors make it very hard to watch. If there is any kind of folk style going on, no chance I'll watch free style. I can always watch some top level matches that are recorded.
They really have to address the lunger fake injuries and the stalling to return to center, as it appears it would only benefit the US, I doubt there is any motivation to make any changes.

Put meaningless exhibition matches on an obscure app that only hardcore fans would even 1)know about or 2)care to download. And have it on the same weekend as an event with actual meaningful matches where the hardcore fans are more likely to be watching. After the first one on Labor Day weekend competing with college football kickoff.

RAF has literally zero business strategy. They will probably really crank things up for RAF03 and have Mineo run some commercials on his Facebook group. RAF03, Thanksgiving weekend. Literally could not pick a better date to find as few people as possible to watch.
Fox Nation isn’t all that obscure. I saw an ad for RAF2 during the World Series—I’m sure that didn’t come cheaply. This whole effort is to get WWE, Fox, and UFC fans to start caring about it. They assume wrestling fans are the easy sell. Not saying it’s going to be successful, but there is definitely some strategy to it.

I was there. I wasn’t feeling it, unfortunately. Sorry Willy. With nothing really at stake, the matches need to have action or be fun. On paper, Varner v Downey fit that description, but the actual match did not. NJ was entertaining. Henschel vs. Mugzy was prob the most entertaining match and it wasn’t between high-level guys. They’re going to need to make this fun to survive.

P.S. entire upper level was curtained off. One side of lower level had no one. Other side was pretty packed for length of mat then sparse to halfway around lower bowl.
And making it last over 3 hours is ridiculous. Bishoff doesn't understand wrestling people obviously most have ADHD 🤣 and thats way to long for the amount of matches. They obviously moved it because Rec hall would have been to hard to curtain off because the crowd could have easily fit in Rec. I hope it survives but I have my doubts after 2 shows . With shows #3 and #4 during HS and NCAA seasons I don't see the turnout being great. Also the commentary has been horrible. Just put Willie and Izzy on the mic. Bubba can't pronounce anyones name right he didn't even call the 🐐 Helen by her corect name I believe it was Morales maybe he was giving Lisa a shout out

Agreed, I'm enjoying RAF. Chance to see some wrestling and a few legends you otherwise wouldn't get to see. You can definitely see the pro wrestling angle in it, I'm okay with that. I think it's pretty entertaining.
Pro wrestling angle on it is the reason me and several other wrestling fans think it sucks.Watched the first one passed this one and future clown shows.

Evidently only marketing was heavy on Fox. Otherwise too short a time frame to properly promote. Bring back with 4 months notice, marketing and it would work here.

College football, World Series and under 23 Worlds…….questionable matches.

Not a winning combination.

In Coach Casey’s email regarding the RAF event, he named Dake and Varner as the two NLWC members who competed. No mention of Carter. Does that mean Carter is officially embarking on his MMA career and done wrestling?

Nothing official. Right now Carter is just taking his time and weighing options. But sticking around for the cycle seems unlikely and MMA is definitely in the future. Probably sooner than later, but it hasn’t been decided as of yesterday.

It is, they are there to compete and have fun, very little stress just there to entertain us and themselves and it works!

It was horrible all around, just terrible. I went to the Hockey game first and then walked across the street to the BJC and watched 3/4 of the matches. The only saving grace was that I didn't sit through the first few matches as well.

These are fantastic athletes that seem to be coerced into being circus ringmasters to hype up the crowd and it fails miserably - very uncomfortable to watch. And for the love of god, please have a soundcheck before the event. I could not understand any of the interviews after the matches.

I wanted to like it, I really did - but it was just not good.

Guys are going to choose this route sometimes in the combat sports world, I just hate to see it. As we’ve seen, wrestling accolades don’t always translate to mma success. Ed had his struggles and we’ll see what happens with Bo. Just tough to see such skilled guys from our sport in there with people who have nothing to lose.

I remember the days when a hula hoop sufficed and we were happy.
You would think, any type of real wrestling would make people happy, apparently not. I hear far more complaining than joy. I would have to conclude, the product is gimmicky.

We need some ref involvement. Make Angel the heel.

I agree with the fake injuries and stalling between whistles but the actual wrestling is a much better product. In folk the stalling is done during the wrestling which is way worse. Activity clock and the way the refs call fleeing in freestyle keep the action moving much better than in folk. I love the push out rule even if grounding needs tweaked. Top in folk has become parallel ride heavy with only a very small amount of guys trying to actually turn. I love both styles and really love that in the USA we get to see a lot of both styles but if I could only pick one it would be freestyle. The actual wrestling is superior in my opinion

wrestling limited to takedowns for the most part

My highly intellectual opinion is that part of the bias toward freestyle is due to the level of competition. World level freestyle competition naturally gonna look better than college folk. The first few rounds of the US Open tend to be pretty butt until the wheat is separated from the chaff.

That said, there were a few 1-1 matches in the 3rd period of NCAA finals last year. Boring AF.

I like both. For those all in on one over the other: SHALLENGE LOASS

I think that folkstyle could improve a lot if WWE rules were incorporated. Full body slams would be allowed and punishing holds could be applied, maybe with the ref counting off a 10 second limit. Also, at the beginning of a dual, the coaches could agree on weights to be combined as tag team matches. Extra points should be awarded for takedowns scored using acrobatic maneuvers rather than standard single or double leg attacks. Bet you these rule changes would get the attendance numbers up considerably.
