Randy Clements - Baylor running game coordinator. Baylor splits their coaching staff up into passing game and running game coordinators. He also coaches the offensive line. Baylor has the best offense in the country and one of the best running games. He has Texas connections to keep that pipeline open and would probably leave for a OC role.

Eric Morris - Texas Tech Co-Offensive Coordinator - Coaches under Kliff Kingsbury. #2 in pass offense so we could effectively use our receivers. Again one of these guys who are in a shared position. Only making 210,000 at Texas Tech and would probably leave for more pay and the full role of offensive coordinator. Keeps Texas pipeline open...or reopens it.

Tyson Helton - Western Kentucky's offensive coordinator. Pretty self explanatory on this one.

Eddie Gran and Lincoln Riley were my top 2 choices when Brown left. Riley is, of course, not an option right now. Now Eddie makes almost too much sense not to be an option.

Don't think any of these guys will satisfy the HC... we have gone through two coordinators and 3 years that supposedly ran the pass happy offense... Don't know whether Shannon Dawson did or not really, but I most certainly do by watching Brown at Texas Tech and neither one of them satisfied the head coach... I honestly believe it until he gets a guy that believes in a run pass ratio of 75-25 he will not be happy because he is still of the old regime that believes you win by defense and running the football and that is what he calls balance...

Eddie Gran is an excellent choice.

Jed Fisch is another. Currently QB coach at Michigan. Former OC at Miami (cranked out an explosive offense there in 2012) and is a Spurrier guy.

Hell, at this point I'd take Joker Phillips as OC over Shannon Dawson. Why Stoops hired such an unproven, inexperienced guy to run the offense to begin with is a head scratcher to me. I'm glad he is gone. The guy is terrible.

Uh 1 coordinator left for a HC job(also a place where he coached before) and his offense actually got progressively better from Joker's last year. He hired Dawson to improve upon our offense and it got worse. Dawson was prickly and evidently not well liked. Recipe for not being retained. But yes, let's continue to blame Stoops based on absolute horse$hit and nothing else. It was evident much of the season Dawson was not ready to ride in the SEC.

Stoops wants us to run it more than a typical Air Raid offense. But not 75-25 as you keep copying and pasting all over the place. This year we were about 50/50 and if you looked our running backs were the most talented part of the offense. Or did we need to see more of Towles throwing it to the other team?

-"The Noles’ punt return and kickoff return units were arguably the most dynamic in the country, as each ranked second in the ACC and No. 7 and No. 17 in nation, respectively. Rashad Greene scored two touchdowns on punt returns and ranked second in the country with a 15.35 punt return average, while Tyler Hunter also had a punt return score. On kickoff returns, Lamarcus Joyner and Karlos Wiliams combined to average 24.6 yards per return"

-Also, he doesn't mind running a QB if he has one to run.
-His pass/run ratio has been flexible while at Cincy....and is fairly balanced. 2015 (52% pass), 2014 (52% pass), 2013 (48% pass)

-"He has also established himself as one of the nation’s top recruiters. He has spent the better part of two decades recruiting Miami and greater South Florida as his primary territory. My experience in following UK's efforts to hire coordinators during less than stable times is that you take the names floated around message boards and social media as somewhat acceptable hires. Once those names have been established, go find candidates who are similar, but are approximately 50 times less desirable.

So, if Eddie Gran is the name you like, expect to see Stoops make a run at Brian Schottenheimer.

Maybe EG can bring his QB coach with him...

Pep Hamilton- Just relieved from OC at Indianapolis Colts. Has multiple years of experience as OC/QB coach including stops in the NFL and Stanford.
Tony Franklin- OC at California, born in Kentucky was OC/WR at UK 1997-2000. Air raid type guy that has enough past experience to mold an offense around his players and not a concept.
Chris Hatcher- Currently head coach at Samford, has multiple years experience as HC. Was a QB/WR coach at UK in 1999.

Easily my top pick of realistic choices would be Eddie Gran at UC. He fits everything we need in an experienced offensive coordinator who is not afraid to throw the ball but also use an effective run game. He has almost 30 years of coaching experience including 15 years in the SEC with stops at Auburn, Tennessee and Ole Miss. He set UC's offensive record in 2013 averaging over 470 yards per game. Stoops also would be very familiar with him as he was the associate head coach, rb coach and special teams coordinator at Florida State from 2010-2012. He currently makes $350,000 at UC ($200k less than Dawson at UK) so UK can easily offer him ~600k.

Also would give us more recruiting prowess in Cincinnati. Would be a home run hire!!!

Pay $600,000 - $650,000 for Eddie Gran, or pay $1.5 million for Sonny Cumbie.

Don't worry, he can replace DJ Elliot as DC.

Cumbie turned down Texas for $1.2 million, I doubt $300k is going to make that much of a difference. He has the full OC reins at TCU now, I don't see him moving.

I want an OC that finds creative ways to run the football. Similar to Meyer/Malzahn/Mullen etc.

Runningbacks are everywhere. If we never have a dynamic Quarterback than at least we can rely on running the ball and defense and snail our way to 6 or 7 wins. Then with the off chance we have a QB that can consistently be relied upon we can hope for that magical double digit win season.

Everyone keeps searching for the next "Baylor" offense and I have no faith that we will be the ones to find that person and if we did he'd be gone in 2 years for a head coachin gig.

Was wondering how long it'd be before Hatcher's name would crop up. Good lord.

Hey, Darin?! I wondered where he ran off to. I used to know him back in the day. It's not hard to figure out from where. Good coach......he's actually a pretty good OC in his own right.

I agree that he would make a good OC/QB coach. He knows Ansley, is a good recruiter, is a FL native & he had a very good playing career as a QB at UCF. A little Pro playing experience as well. UK could do a lot worse than Hinshaw.

Looks like Eddie Gran from reading the above statements is best choice that might be available! Is the OC at Western responsible for their offense or is in training their offense sure looks good?

I was actually hoping that Stoops would hire him a few years back when he was first assembling his staff. But, Hinshaw was not a Neil Brown "guy", so the rest is history.

I wanted Mike Summers to stay too, but...
Wanted MS to stay as well...from what I'm learning Hinshaw has a bright future.

I would bring him and Grin in and tell them to fix this offense and lets play some dam ball.

This may sound crazy but what if Stoops brought back Joker as OC? His offenses with talent could really move the ball in 06 and 07. We have similar talent at rb, wr, and te. Qb is in question but could be a strength. thoughts?

I like the idea of Gran as well especially with the Florida recruiting ties. Would someone like Jim Tressel be an option or is there to much baggage there.

Oh it doesn't?...I said something to MS on the radio early in the season about being worried about the offense and that we didn't seem to be worried about scoring enough points and that it was going to bite us in the butt down the road... He disagreed with me...Well guess what , it did. I honestly believe that MS doesn't want a OC who wants an uptempo , fast pace offense that puts a lot of points on the board fast...With the two OC he has hired since he has been here and are no longer around I think I have a good case...He even admitted on radio with Matt Jones that they had NO offensive identity and he himself didn't know what we were doing. All he ever talks about is being "balanced" ...You better have an offense --especially at KENTUCKY-- that can put you 30+ppg on the scoreboard or you will have little chance of winning in todays college football. This year is a perfect example.
