What chances do we have based upon our HC being (hopefully) on a very short leash of landing SEC quality players in the portal. Quality Players want to win. If you compare our recent assistant coaching hires by the HC to what he may do in the portal it's just not good!!

Honestly, I'm expecting to have a lot of free time for fall fishing in 2026. Maybe some short weekend trips.

I went split screen with the game last night at the half and for the next hour i mainly had it turned off. Finding it easier and easier to do that. Missed whole halves this past season. 30, 20, or 10 years ago I wouldn't have thought I would really care this little.

i hope we don't have to waste a bunch of money this portal season, so we can save it for an actual competent HC next year, and let the interest money build. if we spend a crap ton in the portal this year, we'd get better enjoyment lighting it on fire and having a big bonfire, because this coaching staff doesn't have the competence or a system that utilizes expensive talent

What’s essentially being asked here is how confident are we in one of the below scenarios happening?

1) Lebby outbidding or otherwise convincing two dozen star portal players to forego elite programs, good development, and riches to come to Starkville for an outside chance at winning 6 games.

2) Lebby finding twenty or so lower level guys that his staff can turn into SEC players by imparting their coaching brilliance upon them and putting them in a position to succeed by out-scheming the top coaches in the country

I think our portal class will be a lot like last year. Inflated class ranking due to volume more than quality that fools a lot of our fans into getting excited & optimistic about this fall. But when you look at it closely, there’s a few quality players but less than 1/4 as many as we need.

The players won’t care. Most are just signing 1 year deals to make the most money. They won’t care if Lebby is here in 2027 because they have no expectation they’ll necessarily be here in 2027. What matters is what the boosters think and whether they will cut big checks to get top talent in the portal. If I were a big NIL donor, I’d have a hard time investing much in this train wreck.

There ain’t no billionaire state benefactor walking thru that door to rescue Lebby’s @$$ and buy him a playoff roster
