I think we have shown consistent improvement this year. We have come a long way since the auburn game, and i think replayed we could beat them now.

3 things

1.I get upset when people say that Lee is a bad quarterback because he is too short. There are a few linemen that i have been complaining about for 2 years now that i think should be benched, Lee may be short, but he is also a fantastic quarterback.

2.Everyone is talking about the savior of Miss. State, one man cant win the game, the team has to win it. Tebow couldnt do what he did if he didnt have a fantastic O-Line in front of him making the blocks.

3.Lets look for good recruits, lets finish out the season and trust our coaching staff to train our boys in the off-season to be a serious SEC contender. Because if we can win that, then weve won the National Championship.

in a spread offense and given time to learn the offense. No doubt he was a good athlete. The difference is your fans and O couldn't see that he couldn't succeed in that environment.

I'm basing my judgement on all of the factors given at this time. The players we have coming back, the schedule for the next two years, and the coaching staff that we have right now. Mullen and his staff are the best MSU has ever had at developing QB's. Also, our offense is not built around the running back, and this staff actually understands the importance of the QB position. Regardless, we will have better QB's under this staff once we get rid of the trash that Croom has left at that position. If Croom was still here and we were getting Newton, I wouldn't be nearly as excited.

You could also make an arguement that Newton could have the same impact on MSU that Snead had on Ole Miss his sophomore year. The biggest difference is that Snead didn't go JUCO because of the way his eligibility panned out. Without him, you were a three-four win team that went 0-8 in the SEC. With him, and essentially the same players, except Green-Ellis, you go to the Cotton Bowl. Even with him struggling, you are going to a bowl because he can get the ball to Hodge and McCluster. I mean, you really think that you go to the Cotton Bowl with Billy Tapp?

about the savior at MSU are Ole Miss fans. I think they're a little worried, and they should be. We may not beat them, but it won't be a 45-0 loss.

As one has proven he can flat out play- albeit very inconsistently- at the d1 level and one has not. I think the better argument would be Newton could have the same impact as Nelson, but that obviously isn't something you want to hear or to allow yourself to believe. I've seen Ole miss come within 15 minutes of winning the Sec (twice) with such unheralded QB recruits as Mark Young, Tommy Luke, and Russ Shows. John Darnell and Stewart Patridge have 2 of the Top 5 Ole Miss passing seasons, ever. Usually you don't see the good ones coming....

Josh Nelson was the QB for a team that was about to be put on NCAA probation, and had to get rid of their coach in the summer and ended up being stuck with Joe Lee Dunn of all people as the HC.

Yeah, there might be someone that comes out of nowhere and is decent. All of those QB's you mentioned were serviceable. Likely because they were well coached and Ole Miss through the years has actually realized the importance of the postion better than MSU in general. That's a credit to your coaches. Because that's what happens when you have average talent and you coach it up- you succeed. That said, there are also guys that are highly recruited like Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow, and etc. that were highly recruited and did well. There's a reason why you go after guys that are good players. If you give good coaches, good talent, that's usually a really good combination.

At any rate, none of those Ole Miss hero QB's are even in Newton's league.

These are the same posters who have been trying to convince themselves that Dan Mullen = Ed Orgeron since the day Mullen was hired, even though the vast differences between the two are obvious. They're now trying to convince themselves that Cameron Newton = Brent Schaeffer. Nobody knows how good Newton will be in college. I think he'll be a hell of a QB for somebody, hopefully us. And just for the record, I called the Schaeffer debacle back when Mississippi was just recruiting him (before he signed). I lauged my *** off the day they signed him. They really do just don't want to believe that MSU might actually have a decent coach or a decent QB.

At this point last year, we were 1-5 in SEC games, scoring 11 points per game and giving up 22.
This year, we're 2-4 in SEC games, scoring 20 points per game and giving up 28.

Oh, and we dropped a 5-7 Tennessee team last year and replaced them with a 10-0 Florida team this year.

There is no way of knowing what Newton's "league" is, as he hasn't played a down. He may not even be as "good" as Schaeffer or Nelson. Whatever you want to think about the chaos of Om football in Dec of 1993, you'd be hard pressed to argue that present Msu is more accomplished or more talented by comparison. That ole miss team had won 9 games twice in the previos three seasons- hell MSU doesn't have two 9 win seasons in the past 30 years- and 7 starters returning from the number 1 defense in the country. I'll believe MSU can field a good QB when it happens. I'll believe Mullen is a decent coach capable of more than Orgeron or Croom when it actually happens. All your conjecture is a pretty transparent attempt to deflect focus off of how bad the present is...
