What a joke. After reading his issue with the black bear I had to stop. How on earth can you not know that a black bear is aspecies of bear and not simply a description of the bear's color? Black bear's used to be (maybe still are, I'm not sure) found in MS while other species were not so it makes perfect sense to use them as opposed to another species. This is just ****** journalism all around.

Sure Clay. I actually am pulling for the bear, though I can live with most of the others too, except Hotty Toddy, Fanatic, or Titan.

Clay Travis is showing his ignorance on the black bear. He surely doesn't know "black bear" is a species of bear, much less that it exists in Mississippi.

Horrible, trying way too hard, illogical satire. Surely, someone who is smart enough to get into Vandy, and a massive UT fan would know that there are lots of black bears (Ursus americanus for you book learnin' types) within a half hour of Knoxville.

If you're going to post something by Travis, at least give us a warning so we know not to waste our time.

a couple of lovable, stocking-legged, anthropomorphic flasks emerging from their mobile flask holders, hankering to clank off the head of an unsuspecting referee.

for you book learnin' types, it's Ursus americanus luteolus which is the federally threatened Louisiana Black Bear which is a subspecies. Although I like the whole black bear mascot idea, it seems to me that using a Louisiana Black Bear as a Mississippi mascot doesn't sound to good although they could get involved with the whole Theodore Roosevelt bear story from the Delta and the fact that the subspecies is starting to come back in the state etc. I think that if Ole Miss is going to change mascots, they need to change their name like the Mississippi Black Bears or Mississippi Cardinals. If you're doing away with the whole Civil War persona, then get rid of the "rebel" or it just sounds stupid. "Look mommy, it's rebel the black bear!" Going to a game with a team called the rebels with a black bear as a mascot seems kinda dumb.....same with every other idea. Yeah, when I think of the word rebel, I picture William Faulkner whipping someone's ***.

that this man

couldn't throw down? I'm sure, like any good Oxford resident, when properly topped off on Evan Williams, he could take on anybody.

Now for the serious part: the bluesman idea, if done properly, could be really cool. The concept of facing off with Howlin' Wolf or R.L. Burnside is intimidating (about 1000% more than Hotty and Toddy). Unfortunately, we're talking about something surely designed by a committee (shudder) that is trying to find ways to come up with a marketable logo for hats and shirts, while keeping it palatable for (let's be honest) the country club set and kids.

its an elephant, nicknames and mascots are different. For most schools it makes sense to have a mascot same as the nickname not the same with us, bring on "rebel" the bear!
