"As I said the other day, there was a good chance he wouldn't be
approved. Some didn't like it, but it was what I was told from someone
who would know, and apparently, he was right.
That being said,
here is the GOOD news about this ruling. The NCAA screwed the pooch
here. Where they could have argued two or three different things that
would have made their decision virtually irreversible, they left the
door open to be overturned. They could have argued that he wasn't here
for academic purposes simply by doing their homework and seeing that he
wasn't taking enough hours to graduate in a year, even if it was a one
year program. Or, they could have used the fact that there was no
precedent with an athlete with 2 to play 1. But, they didn't.
Their
opening statement basically stated that since he was ineligible @
Oregon, he should be here, as well. But he wasn't ineligible at
Oregon. He could have stayed and gone to school there with no issues.
He was ineligible to play, not go to school there. Maybe they should
read their own damn rules before making that decision. So, if that is
their argument, this appeal has a good chance to be overturned. If you
want to go all black helicopter, maybe they knew this, made the ruling
this way so itcould be overturned, and they have precedent to change
the rule in the future. Keeps them out of court, and they can always
say they didn't approve him to play, it was the subcommittee.
<span style="font-weight: bold;">On
the second part of their statement as to receiving info from Ole Miss
yesterday, then making their decision, here is what my contact thinks
happened. </span><br style="font-weight: bold;"><br style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Oregon was all for him transferring and playing
here. Masoli becomes sort of a "cult hero" to the second chance crowd,
and with the media coverage almost comes out looking like the victim.
Kelly is thinking this is ********, and doesn't want to be made to look
like the bad guy here. He goes to the DA during the deal with Masoli's
probation, and tries to get them to not release him to travel out of
state, but it doesn't work. At this point, Kelly is getting more and
more pissed, because A) he thinks he looks like the bad guy here, and B)
his QB situation isn't very good, and he is pissed that Masoli isn't in
green/yellow/silver/black.....whatever the !$$$ color they are this
week. So, according to the "spirit" of this rule, the universities
involved, as well as Masoli, need to have matching stories for the
waiver to be considered. At this point, Kelly's story slightly changes,
but enough to throw up red flags. NCAA comes BACK to Ole Miss with a
few questions, and the answers are different than Oregon's. So, at
this point, Nutt, Boone, etc. realize what has happened. Kelly is now
trying to sabotage the deal, as this isn't the way he envisioned the
media covering the situation. This is the part where the NCAA says,
"after further info from Ole Miss, we were able to make a decision."</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"><br style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Just thought you guys would be interested in hearing this.....</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"><br style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">By
the way, there were3 SEC coaches making phone calls to the NCAA
regarding this decision, and let's just say they weren't trying to help
us. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out who these four were.</span>"
Unbelievable.
