I don't think having the game on TBS did them any favors.
My understanding is that the Wisconsin/UK Final Four game came on the same channel last year but received higher ratings than the championship game this year.

It's 2016. Are there that many people who don't have cable? Doubt it.

I don't . TWC priced me out. I have an antenna. Yep that's what I said with Roku which enables me through Sling T.V. to get all the ESPN channels plus TBS, TNT, HISTORY, LIFETIME AND MANY MORE FOR $25.00 a month. No contract so I can drop it anytime. My antenna gives me all the local and more. Old t.v. shows out the ying yang. I was a TWC subscriber for over 30 years and they just kept on jacking my fee up until I had enough. OFC

I'm not arguing with you, but how can that be the case? I mean, I got home and immediately tuned to CBS expecting that to be the station. I would think you'd get bigger money for CBS than TBS. I guess that's a question only the NCAA can answer, haha.

My guess would be.......when the NCAA and CBS/Turner Sports agreed to the new tournament package back in 2011 (showing games on 4 different channels instead of 1, having Charles/Kenny in the booth, etc) that part of the agreement was that Turner Sports would receive a National Championship game.
Seems like a win/win for both parties. NCAA tournament 1st weekend becomes the greatest television event of the year due to being able to watch every game. And Turner gets a HUGE ratings night, for there standards.

I do not know if it will be shown outside of CBS again though.

A combination of being played on TBS and having it the same day as baseballs opening day...

and to top it off(it wasn't the case for me thank God) but some people only got the unc homer channel instead of all of them to choose from. I like rafter so I was happy but I know some that did not get the main channel

CBS could not afford the package solely but didn't want ESPN to Aquire the rights so they worked a deal with Turner. TBS elevated payments to receive title game. I'm cool with this b-c Vitale is not involved then!

Neither team has an NBA lottery pick. could that possibly have an impact also. No star power in a championship game could have played a part. A lot of NBA fans watched last years final four because of all the potential star power

I love the current set-up, where you get to choose the game you want and can watch it in its entirety. We used to be at the mercy of the CBS programmers. I am one of those guys who wants to watch all the Duke game, even if they are up 40 and there is an epic finish/upset going on somewhere else.

The only problem I have is with the NBA guys (Kenny and Charles), who don't do any college games all year, calling the tournament.

You're a better man than me, Sky. I don't think I could get rid of my Comcast subscription, though the fluctuating bill and constant issues with customer service are going to give me an ulcer one day.

It's always MLB opening day.

I suspect TBS is the deal. And agree they should not have the game on TBS but CBS. But, I'm sure that was in the contract.

It does hurt the game a bit, imo, when they don't put it on network TV. They need to make it a bigger household event - as the SB has become (though obviously not nearly that big; just noting that it needs to be viewed as more of a "happening" than a simple college sporting event).

But, the ratings are difficult to determine - at least from a fan's perspective and what goes into that - in this era of internet watching and sports bars.

I cut the cord over a year ago and haven't missed it. I'm so used to using my computer to watch tv anyway and TWC got to the point where my bill had gone up $50 in about 4 months. Never again.

Well, if they are going to put it on TBS, they should start it at 8. 8:30 the latest.

They are still calling me on a regular basis wanting me to sign up. I then tell them in detail why I dropped them. Looks like they would get tired of me. When I first dropped them I almost immediately got a call from a rep. asking me why after 30 plus years I dropped them. I told him of course and he said what if I gave you what you were getting for $99.00 per month. It had gone up to about $125.00. I said no. He then said he would do it for $69.00 per month. I ask him why if they could do it now for $69.00 why was it costing me $125.00 a month for a long valued customer which he kept referring to me as. I told him no it was till too much. He then ask me what it would take to keep my account and I said $0.00 per month. He said he couldn't do that and I said that's what it's gonna take on a permanent basis. He said thank you but I can't do that. OFC

Exactly! By the time my roommate and I got rid of cable, we were pushing $155 or so a month - and it had gone up literally every single month after our one-year promo was over. Now, they're trying desperately to get us to subscribe again. Here is a thought: maybe stop trying to squeeze exorbitant amounts of cash out of good customers in the first place! I will never sign up for another promo deal again because I know once it's over they're going to jack the price up.

Sky the business I was in for 33 years had a 6 to 7 percent general price increase at least once every 10 to 12 months. Thats a whopping 60 percent cost increase to customers every 10 years. All an old time customer means to most companies is a customer they can depend on pushing that increase to at least once a year. The business world charges customers who allow it the highest rates in order to offset customers who receive a lower rate. Sucks but thats how most businesses prosper and budget for yearly product cost and operating increases. At least in businesses similar to the the one I was in. Most smart buyers for a company go out for bids every few years.

Well they don't need to worry about jacking me up again. Did you see Neners last post. As long as the consumer will allow it they will keep on what they are doing. TWC's service is horrible also when there is a problem but if I called first thing tomorrow morning and told them I wanted to get service they would be there within a hour. OFC

I've had the same cable package for about 2 years now. DVR, HBO, sports package. However, last fall during opening weekend of NFL, I suddenly discovered that I didn't get RedZone. Was odd, because I had it the previous year and was told it was part of the sports package when I signed up. I checked the other sports channels (SEC Network, Big10 Network, Pac12 Network, NBA TV, NHL TV, MLB TV), and they all worked. Hell, I even got the NFL Network. But RedZone simply didn't work. I called Comcast and was told that I did not have the sports package, which made no sense because I got literally every sports channel except RedZone. After an hour on the phone berating customer service, I eventually gave into my frustration and agreed to pay $5 more a month for NFL RedZone. These cable companies are ruthless because they know they can be and they know people are just going to give in at some point because they're sick of arguing about an extra $5 a month. Still pisses me off to this day, and my cable/internet/phone bill is pushing $150 a month. Bunch of crooks holding customers hostage.

Cable TV is a necessity for many of us because dish tv is lousy. Time Warner has given me great service but a very high price.

I didn't watch it. The only games I ever watch of those turds are the ones Duke is in. Roy Williams recruited players make a beautiful game unwatchable.
